There is some sort of weird fascination with pushing every life event to younger and younger generations.

Promposals, middle school commitment announcements, U-8 travel ball championship rings.

All of it is bullshite and it lowers the value of the real life actual events these things a modeled after. It's a big deal to sign with a college to play sports. Why are we watering it down with a middle school or travel ball commitment ceremony or announcement?

It's a big deal to win a HS championship. Why are we watering it down by giving away oversized Jostens bullshite rings every weekend every summer?

It's a big deal to get engaged. Why are we watering it down by making every simple dance date request as elaborate as the proposals you see on TV and movies?

I'm sure I sound like an a-hole on some of this stuff, but when every little thing that happens is a "special occasion" then nothing is actually a special occasion.

There’s very little point for following recruiting. It just doesn’t matter until paperwork is signed - and sometimes that doesn’t even matter.

It’s just “what deal are they taking”. Might as well just wait til signing day and see what we came up with.

You don't. You're right about all of it. It's fricking nonsense.

That’s my point. It’s ridiculous. I’m just wondering how much further it can go. As it is now, a commitment isn’t even a commitment, even after they’ve signed

it's a generational thing and it's only going to get worse.

Today's 18 year olds were born in 2008....they were given an ipad or a phone as soon as they could crawl. They've had social media accounts since elementary school. So much of social media is self-serving narcissitic LOOK AT ME bullshite and that's all these kids have ever known their entire life.

You didn't see this kind of thing to THIS widespread a degree even 10 years ago, because the HS seniors of 10 years ago were born in 1998 so probably at least lived some of their childhood in a screen-free world. Now that we've reached the time period where kids have been exposed to this shite since birth...well that's what we've got. I shudder to think how much worse it's going to be 10 more years from now.

I really miss the excitement of CFB signing day.

I also miss 5 bowl games on New Year’s Eve/Day that all mattered to some degree, even if it was just winning a huge bowl game. What a glorious day New Years used to be.

Time marches on and money changes everything.

Here's to our upcoming College Professional Football Regular Season. Hope it's somewhat entertaining. If we bet player props and point spreads we might get some excitement from these reg season games that are designed to keep the teams from playing other teams with a pulse so that you can make the playoffs.
