Floyd vs. Carroll

Floyd resigns due to a 1k payment to someone close to Mayo, yet Bush's family gets a luxury home and Carroll is still the toast of the town?

As usual there are almost as many comments about USC here as on USC boards.

What a shitty board.

The head coach of a major college program just resigned because of an NCAA investigation into cheating. This is going to be discussed on a "more sports board."

Uh, this thread started on the rant.
My comment was a reflection of both boards (USC and td.com). There were so many threads here that the mods had to clean them up. Actually, it was funny.
But I'll reiterate anyway...usually easier to get USC updates here (MSB included) than on USC boards

IMHO Floyd is taking the fall for letting Rodney Guillory hang around the program, whether it's really his fault or not.
Carroll had fockall to do with Reggie Bush's family housing in San Diego County.
If Floyd really did offer any players money, our basketball program is toast, and frankly it should be.
I don't believe the football program will be affected by any of this though, and I don't believe it should be.
The two incidents are night and day in terms of (alleged) culpability.

Agree. Five year long wishful thinking from the rant.

Well you could combine Reggie's family housing sitch with Dwayne Jarret paying like $100 to stay in a resort during his playing days.

Mayo got money to go to USC.
Someone game Bush's family a house in order to persuade his decision upon leaving USC.
If you don't see the difference, then I can't help you.

+1
people just wanna see USC go down so they're hoping something comes out of this. the truth is carroll did not pay bush to go there like floyd did with mayo. doesnt look good for the basketball program, but the football team should be fine

How about you use your witty intelligence on the topic at hand instead of pointing out that there are 2 USC topics on the board.

The NCAA can say that there is a culture of corruption though and put sanctions on the entire athletic department. IF the Bush thing ever gets investigated and they determine USC is at fault, that is two major violations within 3 years of each other and the NCAA will make an act on all of their athletic programs IMO.
Edit: The technical term is "lack of institutional control"

floyd paid somebody. at the least, a representative of the program paid somebody
the agents/managers who paid bush have no relation to USC

Exactly. It's really not that difficult to sort it out.
Posted on 6/10/09 at 10:35 am to Sophandros
the differences between the 2 are not
this difference also explains why it's harder for the NCAA to do anything in the bushgate case (they have power over floyd and other representatives of an NCAA program. they don't have power over 3rd parties, and USC/bush know this)
however, this + what can be proven about bushgate is inching towards LOIC, depending on what teh NCAA actually has on file for bushgate

which is why they linked the two investigations. It's easier then to find total lack of institutional control in the athletic department even without the Bush case testimonies

exactly
any other notable problems in the program? any other minor programs on probation?
wasn't basketball just on probation?

Football and a couple other sports were on probation starting in 01 because tutors were writing papers for athletes. Pretty sure that was our last major violation just off the top of my head. Pretty sure we're totally clear on any probations right now

yep. USC is the top priority of the NCAA right now.
