Charlie isn't the main issue... An aging roster, depleted farm system, and bad contracts is the issue

Amazing to think that it's the middle of August and this will be the first manager change of the year.

why not give the man till the end of the year... he's earned it. Firing a man who won you a world series midseason is in poor taste, IMO.

They were saying the same thing on MLB Tonight. I feel he's earned the right to stay the season. I wonder what his relationship is like with management? Typically you'll see a longtime manager get canned if there's a rift there.

Yep, and as a cubs fan i'm not thrilled. Wanted him to be a bench coach or something until the rebuild was over so we could hire him then. He might still leave the phils but either way it makes it more complicated.

Sandberg should be excellent.
That's how you groom a manager.....he manages the AAA team then becomes a 3B coach.

He's been managing in the minors for years, starting with A ball all the way up to AAA with CHC

i'm not sure, but nothing comes to mind.

It's not like the Phillies are some young team looking for a kick start... they're old

Confirmed... Sandberg new Phillies manager.

This really is eating at me. I hope he does well, but if he gets the Phillies back to the top, I'll feel sick about it.

Didn't Amaro get an extension last year too? The core of the roster is like a poor man's Yankees team of 10 years ago.

They did ryno a favor. Have him manage this mess as a first job. Surely he can see that now.

I figured the plan was always to have a yes man during the time of the rebuild, then dump sveum and get sandberg in. This puts a kink in that.*

*i do like sveum...i just like ryno more.
