the problems are, Horse industry doesn't have the juice as Casinos do, and getting in bed with them will end up being their undoing for those left.

their undoing, was agreeing to the dual licenses, with no guarantee, the casino could just pack up and kick horses out., while greasing the politicians to end dual license . Should of had it in stone, 2 licenses, tied to 1(horse). Instead, tracks will be closing once the casino rids themselves of the horse part of dual license. Indiana tracks could be next, down the road.

Look at Illinois racing, Casino lobbyists paying Shitheadliberals off, has destroyed it to 1 tbred track, no harness. sportsmans, balmoral, maywood, etc gone. Hawthorne has a 1 week or 1 weekend harness meet.

What a surprise....Louisiana lets the sleaziest of all of the gambling interests, Video Poker, lead them around by the nose.

All of horse racing is subsidized by gaming. Where do you think these gargantuan purses for Oaklawn Park come from? From the very machines that that have now been yanked from Fair Grounds.
Churchill, freaking Virginia...all of them subsidized by gambling.

Yeah FG hasn't been managed particularly well and Churchill is a pain (and probably wants out of La anyway).
But the Ky horseman still come to FG for the winter.
But this is about Video Poker over Fair Grounds and ultimately horse racing.

Well to be fair, the LA breeding industry is viable to the state. Its bigger than many think. My gut tells me a deal will get done, or CDI will just realize Louisiana wont be pushed around and put a for sale sign on the FG. Hopefully someone cam step up, which would keep the purses there. And no, I DO NOT want Gayle Benson to buy it. She has run 2 teams in the ground, screwed up a crappy tasting beer by going woke. I wouldn't let her run a lemonade stand.

I don't think it will exist in 20-30 years, unless its at bush tracks. You don't have enough interest in it by the younger generations to keep it sustained. And the perception that its a cruel sport (pushed by the bunny huggers) will further its undoing. Add to that that the track owners will see more value in the real estate (as something other than a track) and the potential for more regulation of equine welfare, and I dont see how it will still exist in its current form.

Thats how it is at FG. Cant keep the slots and sell the track. Have to sell it all. Cant decided which one you want and which one you dont want.

And they about to start getting fined if they don' run races there or sell the track. They not going to like that either

We have a nice LA bred that had a nice meet at the FG this year. Would really suck if we can’t race there this fall.

Hope it’s a dirt horse no where to run in the winter on turf except FG.

Have to go to Delta or Oaklawn

Mostly dirt. Ran at Lone star recently on turf but mainly a dirt horse.

Would the Louisiana Derby move to Evangeline Downs in this case? It is a Derby qualifier.

I did hear a rumor that they could move the FG dates to EVD. Don’t know how true that is but I did hear it

Not enough stalls. Worse case scenario is CD will keep some barns open during the winter, for those outfits that will run at Turfway. The Training track (Spectrum) doesn't have enough room. Besides, they pick up the tab shipping from one CD owned track to another. Either way, it could be a disaster for winter racing across the board. Gulfstream is shite, Oaklawn doesn't run on turf, Tampa is nothing but rats, Aqueduct, yeah ok, and SA has 4 horse fields. Delta, Sam Houston, please. Turfway is probably the only alternative, but its impossible to handicap the Tapeta

i'm rooting for the Louisiana peeps and their racing.

I love watching and betting the Fairgrounds.

And good on them for forcing CDI to do a ALL or None deal.
