re: Explain to me the outrage over Sorsby/TT

Its wild that TTU is apparently willing to do this kind of long term damage to their reputation and fracturing relationships with their fellow conference members. For a one year rental QB, that they probably wouldn’t even have went after if not for Will Hammond tearing his ACL last year. And Hammond will probably be cleared to play by the start of the season, so TTU has a viable option at QB without Sorsby

How would you feel if someone on the team you support bet against them and then possibly did something to cost them the game just to win a bet?
Is that fair to the other players, school or fans?

You do realize he has not even sat out one game due to massive violations of NCAA rules as well as many laws.

I honestly think people are trolling with questions and threads like this. I mean, you have to understand the implications, right?
If not, let's go into this in some detail.
It's not about Texas Tech paying him, that much is fine. It's the fact that he gambled on games his team played, and apparently in a couple, he took the under for his own team.
Meaning, he bet his team wouldn't perform to a certain level.
As a non-player, that's insider information, and people have gone to prison over things like that. Given the chance of injuries, entirely possible he could have entered the game, so "scout team" is irrelevant. And it would be completely in his best interest to do poorly, intentionally miss passes etc.
On the micro level, it compromises the game he's in. On the macro level, it can shake the public's perception that the games are legit... and that's why penalties are so big. People love to bitch about "the game is rigged" when there's a missed call, but God help us if it's ever confirmed to be a fix in place. The stadiums become empty because you don't pay to watch that.

Was point shaving even one of the allegations?
And don't give me that "he was on the scout team" crap. At Indiana he was on a bad team with a bad offensive line, playing teams like Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State. Being on the scout team means he is a couple big hits from being the gameday backup, or even the starter, by midseason. Look at how many teams, even good teams, have lost their starter the past few years.

With Texas Tech admin doubling down on supporting this, their football program should get the death penalty. Or at least a de facto one with everyone refusing to play them until they get right.

This.
It is a near certainty he is not the only college player who has bet on his own team. And it's very likely at least some aspects of some games in recent years have been compromised to some degree (likely in the form of a prop bet) because a player, or someone he was associated with, had a bet on the game. That was happening BEFORE sports betting was legalized in most states. Even then though there was no reason to believe that practice was widespread and cries of a game being "rigged" were total conjecture.
With this ruling you have a court legitimizing players betting on their own game without any fear of consequence. The fans are going to assume players are betting on their own games now because, why wouldn't they? This ruling shows there's no significant reason not to (other than simply wanting to win fair and square). The NCAA is powerless to prohibit such conduct and the Texas Tech AD/coach clearly don't care that their starting QB's play could be compromised because he has action on the game. That means there are no real consequences for the players.
Most people love sports because it is one of the few instances where we can watch immediate competition without a predetermined outcome. Strip that general belief away and people start to lose interest

Yes, he broke NCAA rules. Yes, there is recent precedent against his exact actions. Yes college sports is a complete mess.
I’m not condoning his actions and I don’t care about Texas Tech at all. But it’s not a competitive advantage, he’s not being paid illegally, it’s not performance enhancing, etc.
However, doesn’t this reaction seem a little odd after all the shite we’ve seen?
IDK why TT is dying on this hill, but I find it odd this is the issue where randos like Georgia and Nebraska are going to such lengths to shun them either.
Is it some moral outrage? Why this and why now? Especially on the heels of this UT back and forth and TT’s emerging success in a few sports.
Is it the old guard threatened by new blood? Is that the root?
You must be an epic retard. Not just your average garden variety retard. That's impressive. There is a reason that betting on your own team (win or lose) is a forever ban in most sports. But if you are honestly that retard there is no hope of being able to explain it to you.
