All of this.

You can't determine "Best Team" Everyone needs to quit using that phrase. It is simply not possible.

All you can do is determine your Winner. Your Champion.

their regular season afforded them more leeway than Georgia.

Georgia got spanked by LSU and then still had an opportunity to play their way into the playoffs but choked the SECCG away. If Notre Dame lost even one game, they would be left out. Nothing unfair about it at all. ND deserved a shot to play for a national championship and Georgia didn’t.

It’s sad that the CFB season is going to continue to get watered down when the playoffs have been mostly terrible for the last five years.

It won’t get watered down. If anything it will improve as more national championship shots will be on the line late in the season.

EVERY conference title game will mean something. Mid majors will have a shot

A 1 loss LSU that loses to Bama will still be playing for a shot late in the season.

This will increase interest across the board

Yes, and the current system is filled with flaws and holes. Being the only sport where conference champions have zero shot st the title and half can’t qualify is not a good thing.

You'd prefer ND in there vs UGA when comparing their schedules?

Go to 8.

Tell the P5 conferences your champion gets an auto bid. Let the conference decide how to determine that champion. That gives 60+ schools a cut and dry way to make the playoffs - something that every major sport in the US has except CFB.

In your opinion. Why am I and others dumb for wanting an 8 team playoff?

Better strength of schedule doesn’t necessarily mean better overall resume. If Georgia had at least kept it close against LSU then you may have had a reasonable argument that Georgia's resume was as good or better than ND’s.

Who is the 6th conference? AAC

It would have to go to highest ranked champ of G5 conferences. Basically your P5 champs and one G5 champ auto bids. The other 2 spots are then based on final ranking. Seed it and play the first round on campus.

With 8 teams at least we’ll have home games in the first round? Would still make the regular season matter as much. Let’s say you’re Florida, even if you’re ranked high do you want to risk a home game against say UCF vs having to go on the road to a northern team like Michigan or something?

I don't understand why people don't get this. Every team in the hunt for their conference title will have something to play for late instead of what we have now where if you aren't a blue blood you 100% must go undefeated. Does anyone really think a 12-1 Iowa State gets into the playoff over an 11-2 UGA this year? I sure don't.

Right now what we have is a beauty pageant that really only invites blue bloods and maybe if you're lucky a few purples. Teams like Vandy, Wash St, Pitt, Purdue, Baylor etc would never be given the benefit of the doubt over a blue blood like Alabama, Ohio State, OU, USC, or Florida State.

The committee says they want to pick the best teams but then they turn around and say well your schedule is this, that and the other so you aren't deserving. They've created a system where at the end of the day your logo is more important. It doesn't matter if a team might actually be the best if they don't have enough blue blood skins on the wall regardless of if those BB teams were actually good or not that season. Hell, odds are if a non traditional power wins their conference it will be held against them b/c "Oh well that conference is down this year b/c Ole Miss/Oregon State/Wake Forest/Indiana won it so we should give that 4th slot to an SEC or Big 10 power that has two losses. They just feel better to us."

Playoff games on campus would be electric. Would be the tits to see AU at Michigan, or LSU in Eugene.

is stupid, what distinguished college football from other sports in American history and makes it so compelling on a weekly basis is the overwhelming and immense emphasis it places on regular season performance, every regular season game is a one-game playoff and college football exists in a format that incentivizes undefeated seasons whereas, in the NFL, undefeated seasons are a goal, an accomplishment. The more we expand the CFP, giving one/two-loss teams mulligans with this tournament, the more we diminish the entire point of college football, its distinguishing and compelling format that sets it apart.

I would have absolutely no issues with this entire situation if there were 4 conferences total.

Having 5 conferences and ND/BYU as independents means you feasibly have 7 teams who could have 0/1 loss all at once.

If you have Bama, OU, OSU, Clemson, ND, Washington and BYU all at 11-1 or 12-1, you're up shite's creek without a paddle. It happened this year, and immediately why OSU/B1G went to get it changed (and it will happen soon IMO)

I would hope so but odds are they would just take the NY6 and add a few more bowls as playoff locations for each round.

Yet we have seen talking heads down play early season losses or losses when certain players may be injured

8 team playoffs are terrible ways to determine a champion

It's a money pandering scheme that dumb people rally behind.

Look at the Saints this year in the NFL. Easily proved they are one of the top few teams but they have to risk a title defense against scrub teams where flukes could occur and ruin their season

It's illogical

And yet Bama has gotten a mulligan by not winning its conference (or even its own division) under the current system and under the BCS.
