The elastic waist band was revolutionary.

That looks the Madam Tussauds version of Blake Griffin.

The 90's started a drastic change both in fit and style that became downright absurd in the 2000's. Fortunately, we started to trend back towards reasonableness in the 2010's and I think right now we might be in the best period for basketball uniforms ever. The uninforms don't have the ridiculously short shorts like everything pre 1990, but they aren't the completely stupid baggy long shorts of the 2000's. The jerseys are fitted and the style of the uniforms are very clean. I know fashion always changes and we eventually move away from the current style, but right now every team looks sharp.

Unfortunately, you can see some hints of the awful 90's starting to creep back in. Most notably Arkansas and Villanova:

No wordmark on the jersey and weird 90's-esque striping on the shorts

Oversized contrast of color on the shorts with dumb angles

Agree.

But Villanova's look pretty good IMO.

Arkansas has a identity crisis with uniforms in every sport. They rarely use a classic look and always come up with some sort of ugly foolishness. Football, Basketball and Baseball are all bad.
The ones they wore yesterday top the list

I agree except for all the Boy Scout patches on everyone’s uniforms.

You’ve got a conference logo, a corporate logo, a social phrase and an NCAA patch- it’s too much.

Didn’t he need longer shorts to hide his UNC shorts?

This is not good. You have players rolling up the bottom and elastic portion of the shorts. The first time I saw it I thought there was a stripe around the elastic.

Anyone here old enough to remember when Belts stopped being a part of the uniform?

A lot of high school basketball teams had belts as part of the uniform in the 1970's. Just google 1970's high school basketball and you'll see them in lots of photos. I remember my small town high school in N. La. having belts. It was probably cheaper and I think the uniforms worn by my high school team were often used for 3-4 years before buying new ones. That was common back then in small places with no money.

Yes, but...

Judging by the kneepads in some of those pictures:

Pre 1940's= protect the knees at all costs.

Post 1940's= F*ck them knees

They aren't terrible by any means. It's just that you can see a little bit of the 90's style creeping in. Especially compared to what they were just 3 years ago:
