So these players just stay on the lower level teams for the duration of their career?

It's not like our leagues where they have drafts or a college league. Most of the top players come up through their clubs' academies.

So chances of playing for a big club without going through an academy are low?

I just don't see how economically these teams stay afloat. Do the players make any money?

LINK - That's a lot of teams. I mean, how is that feasible to sustain operation?

There really are no other major sport teams in that city. It's just soccer.

There are 4 teams in London in the Aviva Rugby English Premiership.

From what I remember from reading Soccernomics (which isn't a lot, but it was interesting), most of the euro owners treat these teams like a vanity project, just dumping considerable fortunes made elsewhere into them. They aren't as concerned with making money on the soccer side.

Now, this was before the American sports team owners started buying euro clubs, so that may have changed.

That's the beauty of the relegation system...all association teams are eligible for promotion/relegation, each and every year. A small amateur based club could and has, risen to top levels.
While teams like the cubs, astros etc. are never in danger of losing the big TV $ and just continue to fleece their loyal fans, with zero consequence year after year....I prefer the competitive process

That definitely makes sense then.

I would like to play a x-box game where you can start with a team on like the 24th level of English soccer and through the years take them all the way to the top level.

That'd be a helluva dynasty mode.

Most of the top players were identified when they were younger. They go into academies at a young age.

Young meaning...?

Seems like a lot of talent could be missed by evaluating when younger.

Not a common occurrence but I'm aware of a few Bundesliga teams which rose from amateur/semi-pro status....Hoffenheim currently and Darmstadt a while back. The system encourages teams/management to do their best for the entire season...vs. many US teams actually trying to finish last so as to enhance draft possibilities

You can be a fan of the Lakers, Angels, Ducks, Galaxy, and USC and be able to go to many games of each team because they are in different seasons and play at different times.

YOu better be one rich mother if you have season tickets the Lakers, Angels, Ducks, Galaxy and USC.
I seriously doubt there are people out there with more than 2 season tickets in a city like LA. I'm sure the list of people with 2 is low as well.
Do you konw how much Lakers season tickets are?

They don't count. They outspent their competition until they made the first division

More often than you would think. Swansea City has has had a pretty good run in the EPL the past couple years. Ten years ago they were playing in League 2, the fourth level of English football. Manchester City is a top team and they were playing in Division 2 (3rd level) 15 years ago.

Relegation can also work against you though. Leeds United used to be one of the top clubs in England. They finished fourth in the Premier League and made it to the Champions League semifinals in 2001. Due to horrible financial mismanagement, they imploded and have been languishing between the 2nd and 3rd levels since.

That still doesn't seem that "often". And even then, they weren't mired down too far. Third and fourth levels aren't too far down the list. Though I do understand how hard it is to get promoted.

When there's really only 4 major tiers, it is far down the list. Especially for a team that is usually is usually in the EPL.

Where did I say season tickets? If I lived around LA, I would be a fan of the Kings (hockey), Galaxy, and either UCLA or USC. I would try to go to at least a few games of each. Also, their seasons barely overlap.
