Oh boy, another list for fans to fight about on the the internet during the offseason.

These lists are the media’s pure red meat for football starved fans

At DB, I always protest Primetime....you have to tackle people. I also think Darrell Green should get some love

I came here to post this exact thing. Green was much better.

You are probably on target. DE and OLB are not debatable. At DT, Alan Page and Bob Lilly will challenge Greene. MLB- Butkus and Lambert will get votes. CB - I
d take Rod Woodson over Deion. Kicker could be Morten, Stenerud or Vinateiri.

As for the offense, no big arguments other than Walter Payton is the GOAT RB.

Jerry Rice is the best football player ever if we are being honest.

88% of the vote is pretty surprising to me, particularly when Rice only got 90% of it.

I only have three problems with the list. Randy should have gotten more votes, The fact that Deion didn't get more votes, and Ed Reed was way better than Ronnie Lott and he is the actual GOAT

He kept me from being 100 percent on defense. They just went edge and not DE and OLB, but I had their pick and rubber-up.

ESPN is so easy to predict. You knew they were going Primetime and Ray Lewis over obviously better players.

Aaron Donald over Mean Joe Greene is mind-bogglingly stupid. If they would have made this list 5 years ago, they’d have JJ Watt instead of LT.

Aaron Donald is easily the best interior DL ever and will finish one of the best 2-3 players period

Edge rusher: Lawrence Taylor

The runners-up

Reggie White

I personally don't disagree with this, LT changed the game and created the EDGE position and made the left tackle one of the KEY positions in football because of his success

quote:

Taylor is the best football player I have ever seen, regardless of position. I've heard the Reggie White arguments, but they always strike me as parochial -- Philadelphia fans who don't want to admit the guy from New York was better than their guy -- and I just don't see where White was better outside of longevity.

quote:

Dan Graziano, NFL reporter

This really is a clown comment, I really think LT and White are 1 and 1A. When LT was interviewed on that NFL 100 special, he gave White such high regard. Both can be at the top without trashing the other.

quote:

Defensive tackle: Aaron Donald

The runners-up

Joe Greene
Deacon Jones

Well first, Deacon Jones was an end so that's weird

I don't have a problem with AD being no. 1 there, he's awesome

quote:

Linebacker: Ray Lewis

Runners up: Dick Butkus
Mike Singletary

I love Ray as a player and leader but Dick Butkus did what he did WITH COMPLETE GARBAGE AS TEAMMATES AND ON BAD KNEES THE FINAL 3 YEARS OF CAREER

Ray Lewis was surrounded by studs which freed him to make plays, Butkus didn't have that luxury in a considerably rougher era plus he was the most feared player of his generation if not all-time, I'm going Butkus

quote:

Cornerback: Deion Sanders
Runnersup: Charles Woodson
Rod Woodson

I don't disagree with Deion being GOAT here, his reputation and skill as a cover are undeniable but Rod Woodson was a better corner all-around and arguably as fast as Deion, the dude was almost in the 1988 Olympics

I wholeheartedly agree with Lott being no. 1 safety, I won't fight you on Reed I know he was a BIG difference maker on the field, they're a great 1 and 1A combo

I don’t understand how he “invented” the position when Rickey Jackson and Andre Tippett were doing the exact same thing at the exact same time.

And don’t get me started on Bum Phillips’ Oilers and Jerry Glanville’s Grits Blitz in the 70s.

It’s the most myopic New York City narrative in NFL history., right up with Joe Namath.

Not saying he’s not the GOAT or at worst in the short-list discussion for GOAT though.

LT won Defensive Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and was 1st team all-pro as a rookie.

He was a consensus no. 1 overall pick by most of the NFL but BUM Phillips was dumb enough to pick George Rogers

In the same year, Bengals OLB Reggie Williams had 1.5 more sacks, 3 more INTs, 2 more fumble recoveries, and helped lead his team to the Super Bowl.

And he didn’t even make the Pro Bowl.

Thanks for proving my point that LT was not “revolutionary.”

And BUM picked two Hall of Famers in that draft, by the way.

He got Rickey Jackson in the 2nd round. 6 fewer career sacks than “revolutionary” Lawrence Taylor.

Who??

Name the offenses OLB Reggie Williams struck fear in regularly

Joe Gibbs change his entire offense because of Bengals OLB Reggie Williams? lol
