I understand if your Texas and A&M that it's easier to just go ahead and take Baylor instead of Houston
Houston was never ever and will never ever get into a conference with UT there's a history

I know the Lt. Governor carries a lot of weight in TX -particularly on the budget and in the Senate - but cutting off the two biggest schools completely? Aside from being unfeasible how many constituents would you be pissing off in your own state if you did that?

with the Gov. and Speaker,,,, yes

the controller the entire budget not just the education funds

Jenkins: I think at that point, everybody -- I'm talking about everybody in the conference -- pulled back their aggression in recruiting. There were no alumni groups out there cutting deals to buy players. Everybody went to a very straight-across-the-board, scholarship offer, nothing else, no-shenanigans [approach]. Except the Texas [A&M] Aggies kept taking players to the back room for cars and clothes and cash, and you know what? They got caught, and they got probation [in 1988]. Fortunately for them, the NCAA had seen what happened at SMU. That program had nearly completely gone out of business and they said, "We'll never do that to another team ever again."

Some gold here

Good to read he's still a gigantic arse. I'm sure A&M hurts so much rolling around in the SEC money like Scrooge McDuck.

This was a good read. It sucks that college football is so corporate now. That good old fashioned regional hate and win at all costs attitude is what gave the sport its soul

Houston is way better positioned to be a good Big 12 big 3 AD than Baylor is. Had they gotten in, The conference is likely much stronger

Baylor’s been great at a bunch of different sports whether you like them or not with their scandals... they’ve had a Heisman, top men’s and women’s basketball, a good baseball team

The rape and murder takes the shine off a lot of that, though
