To me this is the ULL version of "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". Outside of Louisiana, there really is confusion about who and what ULL is. And the kick in the arse is this: I have no doubt that ULM is a much less source of confusion for those who aren't from this region. They own that they are ULM, thus no identity crisis.

That's wrong. This article is pretty much how I recall what happend, I was a USL student at the time and opposed to the name change (wish it still was USL). The article is clearly written from a USL/UL Lafayette bias but most of the specific are as I recall.

The Board of Regents and the UL Board of Supervisors finally approved the name change in late August 1999. USL became UL Lafayette and NLU became UL Monroe.

That is a complete misstatement of what the university is doing. The NCAA asks each school via their conference to designate how their school should be referred and to provide designated logos. UL Lafayette specified either Louisiana or Louisiana Lafayette and specified NOT ULL. It really comes across as little brotherish, and that's coming from a graduate.

They're on national TV and have about 500 people in the stands. Who cares what logo they use for that shithole?

As an alum, it will be to me also. As someone else said, I wish they'd go back. If your pride is that weak that you are ashamed to attend a "directional" school, then you have issues.
