1971 fight. I believe its number 2. Amazing every time I see it. 15 rounds of beating the absolute shite out of each other. The heart, chins, and cardio involved is amazing.

The sound of every Frazier gut punch makes me nauseous.

ETA It was fight #1.

Just a brutal fight for Ali. 15 rounds as heavyweights and they never stopped throwing. Frazier looked like a super middleweight and was throwing bombs.

They gave all 3 in a row. Used to love boxing back then. Other weight classes too. Hagler, Hearns and Leonard. Like Ali, Frazier, Foreman

The 1971 fight was the first fight of the trilogy between Ali and Frazier. Ali goes on to win the next two bouts. I spent majority of the day watching boxing. Tyson’s 1st round TKO against Spinks, after the build up and anticipation, was incredible.

Spinks was terrible. He was beaten setting foot in the ring.

Of course nobody alive at that time could have beaten Tyson.

Ali/ Frazier is such an odd time. Vietnam. Fight made political but was still a GOAT fight or the GOAT. Burt fricking Lancaster color commentating. Frank Sinatra took photos for Life magazine. Wikipidea says because he was unable to get a good seat? Frank fricking Sinatra in 1971 unable to get a good seat.

Frazier was the champ and, I'm sorry, he beat the living hell out of Ali that fight. Won a unanimous decision. Fight, in modern times, would have been stopped in the 11th when Ali was out on his feet. Knocked Ali down in the 15th and Ali took a lot of heavy shots after that.

Point is, why was there ever a rematch? These announcers were shilling for Ali the entire fight and are lobbying for a rematch post fight. If I'm Frazier I'm not taking a rematch. I already beat the hell out of the guy, why rematch?

But then we wouldn't have gotten the trilogy and, yes, I realize Ali wins the next two. Still, after watching that I'm left wondering why there was a part 2.

It was rough watching those later rounds knowing what kind of effect it had on Ali later in his life.

I wish Tyson was in the 70's era, would have loved to have seen big George, Ali, and Frasier beat his arse down.

Would have loved to see Tyson and Frazier in their prime go at it. They could have cut the ring in half, because they didn't need it.

It’s great that ESPN is showing these throwback fights during these times. I’m younger, so I’ve never really sat down and watched Ali until now.

For me, knowing the results of combat sports do not make me lose interest. I have trouble rewatching a football or baseball game once I know the results, no matter how entertaining it was.

Ali looks in wayyyy better physical shape in fight 2. It's very obvious.

Pretty awesome. Never watched the fight in it's entirety.

Now the 2nd fight is starting you can watch how Ali changes his tactics in this fight. It starts with a new punch when Frazier changes level and starts bobbing Ali throws a short hook at just above waist level which lands a lot more than the straight shots he was throwing in the 1st fight.

True, but I disagree in that they beat the hell out of each other... I have zero issue with the decision. But it took everything out of Frazier. Pitiful to watch him try to get out of the ring. Exhausted, jaw JACKED up, and doesn't even seem to care that he won. Meaning he was just too exhausted to give a shite.

Frazier needed a rematch because Foreman put him to sleep. Had Foreman not come along, you're probably right. My takeaway is why was Frazier always so bitter. From Gentleman Joe to bitter old man. He won the fight of the century, and you'd swear he lost.

We will never know. We will never know if young Tyson had a chin. Nobody hit him. He was full on nuts by the time Douglas beat him. If he truly had an average chin and was easily frustrated (like eating Holyfields ear) then Ali would have made him bodyslam him like Hulk Hogan in Rocky. And Frazier would have thrown with him until someone went to sleep.

Interesting take on a Frazier/Tyson fantasy fight.
Both were incredibly tough as nails.

first time really watching Ali. His jabs look funny. He rounds them instead of a straight jab

Ali's rounded jabs tore Henry Coopers face all to pieces. One of the bloodiest fights I have ever seen.

You would be mad too if a guy you helped out tremendously came back and started calling you a sell out to the point your immediate family was being harrassed.

It was way more personal for joe. At least the first time.
