Great read, but extremely sad. Rashaan seemed like a lost soul who was never able to find his purpose after football.
I wish more people understood this. In an era where it seems people are constantly seeking attention (e.g. social media), some people really don't function well in the spotlight. It makes them uncomfortable. It's such a foreign concept to many folks that some people just want to be left alone or let their work/actions speak for them.

Sounds like he had a pretty bad drug problem and that's most likely what started a lot of his issues
Sad!
Had he picked up the phone sounds like CU would have hired him and at least he would have had a job.

There is mixed information on this. The former head coach (Embree) says he wanted to bring him on as an ambassador but no one else in the AD’s office was interested.
Seems like he was really struggling finding his place in the world after peaking at 21.

I went to every Buff home game his Heisman winning year. He was a good dude. It's a reminder to all of us to reach out to our friends who are struggling. Matt Russell (in the video) was my neighbor/tenant. Lots of memories watching that. The Iowa State game there, I still have some old Panoramic prints from in the stadium that day.
Rest in Peace Rashaan .

It’s because this year is his 25th Heisman anniversary.

I would say his problems are what caused him to turn to drug use to cope with them.

Would have been the one good thing Embree did during his short tenure.

I won't say it was a good read. It was well written and it sure was memorable.
But there are so many questions unanswered.
That his long time buddy had a good family and children that kept him going...but Salaam didn't see that and didn't extrapolate that relationship with his two children.
That he'd just disappear
That he might have been his religion's version of a cafeteria Catholic.
I got the impression that the writer had done a lot of work, but hit brick walls really often.
His Mother's insistence on a rapid internment with his body untouched means the possible brain injury will never be addressed. Nor will his drug usage, nor will it be defined or delimited.
