I’ve never been all anti ESPN like some around here, and I’m not ashamed to watch it here and there. But I have definitely found myself watching less and less of it over the last year. Firstly due to sports being gone for a while. And then it just kinda became something I didn’t care about anymore. For example, I used to watch PTI almost every day. It was a good rundown of the sports stories of the day. And eventually I just didn’t care enough to tune in and watch them talk about “not sports.”

I put it on SportsCenter yesterday morning to see if they had some Masters discussion and coverage going on. And they actually did. So I was pleased. And then about two minutes later they moved to a story about protests outside of Augusta National because of the new voting laws in Georgia. So I changed the channel.

So I get home today and figure I’d try PTI since it’s been almost a year since I’ve actually watched it. I figured I’d see what they thought about The Masters. Well the first story they talked about is the cancellation of Minnesota sports today because of the police shooting. Of course. So I’m changing the channel again.

And I’m sure I’ll get bombarded with the “why did you watch it?” comments. But I actually don’t hate ESPN. Or didn’t. But even someone like me, who’s willing to put it on sometimes, had to change the channel twice in the last two days because they are still trying to cover things that most sports fans don’t give a shite about. Just seems like an awfully stupid business strategy for them to still be forcing.

I’m sure y’all don’t care about my TV watching, but it stood out enough to me that I figured I’d bitch about it here.

Live sporting events are being cancelled because of what you’re talking about

It would be weird if ESPN didn’t talk about it

Sadly some people do care about that shite. Those people are their target audience. I am not one of them

Had lunch the other day with some friends and the TVs had on various sports shows on cable.

The one I chuckled at the most was something I didn't realize they had done..Apparently, there is a "Pardon Her Take" with 3 women and some dude they are paying to laugh at everything the ladies say.

They were showing a clip of an Umpire getting hit in the balls by a foul ball..All the ladies thought it was really funny guys.

I share your opinion on not entirely hating ESPN. I still put it on to "give it a chance" but it always ends up like you said. Just pandering political stories.

Thank god baseball is back and I can just have the same highlight reel segment on repeat for hours on end at late night on MLB Network. The best thing MLB network can do is stay away from that pandering bullshite. Quick Pitch and MLB Tonight seem to be nothing but baseball footage. I can't vouch for the other shows since I don't see them.

I've never been big on NBATV or NFL Network. How are those channels?

I turn on ESPN if there is a specific sporting event I want to watch now. That's it.

Something isn’t adding up here why would they make a pun off of the name of a barstool podcast

i think it's pretty fair to be annoyed with them showing protests outside of augusta national (which i personally and probably luckily saw nothing about). there is basically zero reason anyone should put on espn and want to see that type of coverage.

it's also pretty reasonable that PTI is discussing the cancellation of like 4 different sporting events on the day that they are being cancelled.

I was eating lunch at a restaurant today, and the waiter was carrying a big tray of plates, and he slipped on a banana peel, and one of the plates flew across the room, hit the remote, knocked it on the ground, and the channel changed to ESPN. I can’t believe I watched this garbage for the rest of my lunch!

This is such a funny way to start a post about how bad ESPN is.

I miss the days of Runyonesque sportswriters and sports journalists talking games and strategy, real meat of the game stuff..

Thus watch VSIN, CBS Sportswatch, Don Best,etc..and go to their pods/blogs..where they are unconstrained by Disneyf!gs and Jaffee-esque agendas.

If I want to listen to political discussion, why would I tune into a sports network?

That's like turning on MSNBC for cooking advice.

Not really. I’d say the vast majority of sports fans only care about sports and don’t want to hear politics. And if ESPN wants to argue that the two are irreversibly intertwined, that’s fine. But then don’t be surprised when your viewership falls off a cliff.

For example, I’d love to see Lebron highlights from the NBA. What I don’t want to see is Lebron tweets about how he’s “literally being hunted” in the streets. There’s a big difference. And you know that. But I understand you have a schtick to uphold around here.

I think he’s talking about First Take, when they have an all female panel.

Can anyone explain to me how a sports event getting canceled would not get covered by ESPN like that’s exactly what ESPN is there for

This situation is directly effecting sports, it would be insane to expect ESPN not to mention it or discuss it
