He didn’t really fight back like he did in past fights

Well he was a lunatic, so that's not too hard to believe.

Buster got a long count, but he looked ok and like he was timing getting up to the ref's count. If it had been a shorter count, I think he would have hit that too.

Buster was also controlling the fight. He dominated Tyson in the 8th and 9th. Tyson clearly won two rounds and Buster probably had the rest. Even the knockdown was in a relatively even round when Tyson just hit a big punch.

Perfect storm of ridiculous hubris meets unexpected determination.

By 1990 Tyson was thought to be completely unstoppable. The rubber glove in this fight is the most visible sign of that hubris. The corner never thought Tyson could or would be hurt or that they fight would last longer than a few rounds, if that.

On the other hand, Douglas was a model of inconsistency. He was not thought of as a guy who had the inner strength to "fight back" the minute he faced adversity. However, for that one fleeting moment he found that determination. His mother dies less than 3 weeks before the fight and he refuses to postpone it. He came in with nothing to lose and a spirit to fight.

Once the fight got to about round 5 Tyson found himself in a place he NEVER thought he would be. Panic started to set in. Still, we saw how great Tyson was and could be when he knocked Douglas down in the 8th. That would have ended the hopes of most competitors. But Douglas came back to fight maybe one of the best rounds for any fighter in the history of boxing. The 9th. After taking Tyson's best shot he, he regained his determination and bludgeoned Tyson in the 9th. Only the ropes and the bell kept Tyson up. The Douglas devastated him in the 10th..leading to one of the most unexpected shots in sports history, a clearly dazed and wobbly Tyson scrambling to find his mouthpiece. For the first time in his career Tyson looked completely helpless

Tyson always had power. His decline was because he stopped using movement and setting up combos.

When he got lazy on technique and building his attack, he started having difficulty against bigger fighters or guys with solid defense. Douglas and Lewis were too big for him to consistently get in range of without movement and multiple punches. Holyfield was too tough to go down on one shot and had good defense.

Douglas was during the period Tyson's skills were in full regression. He rebounded a little with the Ruddock fights, but then came prison. After that, he just hunted the one big shot.

I saw a documentary about Tyson where after the McBride fight ended and he declared retirement back in 2005. A couple of days after he said he was going into a retirement a reporter asked him what did he think about his career ending and Tyson said “my career ended in Japan back in 1990”.

Not much but here are a few

UMBC over Virginia
Leicester City winning the premier league
Sarava winning the Belmont over War Emblem
2007 Stanford over USC
2007 App State over Michigan
US Hockey vs. Russians in the Olympics

That's pretty much the list.

Always fascinated by Tyson's career. That said, I didn't learn anything during this 30 for 30 that I didn't already know, other than hearing some clips of his arrogance. In the earlier years he was not so openly disrespectful of his opponents.

I learned a bit from the bookie. I never understood Vegas odds and all that. Kinda cool he was the only one that put up odds on the fight.

The loss of Cus D'Amato is a large what if in Tyson's career arc.

According to bookmakers on this documentary.

It wasn't.

Some vegas bookmaker on it said that was only 3-1. (Not sure I really believe him but other posters have also posted about it in here that it was said)

This was 42-1

To this day it's still surreal to believe.

Tyson was never the same again.
