Not often that a Heisman winner plays for their home state school and Smith continues the trend.
Winner - Birthplace - High School location - College
Tebow - Makati, Phillipines - Ponte Vedra, FL - Florida
Bradford - Oklahoma City, OK - Oklahome City, OK - Oklahoma
Ingram - Hackensack, NJ - Flint, MI - Alabama
Newton - Atlanta, GA - Atlanta, GA - Auburn
Griffin - Okinawa, Japan - Copperas Cove, TX - Baylor
Manziel - Tyler, TX, - Kerrville, TX - Texas A&M
Winston - Bessemer, AL - Hueytown, AL - Florida St.
Mariota - Honolulu, HI - Honolulu, HI - Oregon
Henry - Yulee, FL - Yulee, FL - Alabama
Jackson - Pompano Beach, FL - Boynton Beach, FL - Louisville
Mayfield - Austin, TX - Austin, TX - Oklahoma
Murray - Bedford, TX - Allen, TX - Oklahoma
Burrow - Ames, IA - The Plains, OH - LSU
Smith - Amite City, LA - Amite City, LA - Alabama
ETA --------
I kept going back and every winner from Eric Crouch in 2001 through Troy Smith in 2006 played for a college in their hometown state.
The trend is that recent winners are not playing for their hometown/HS state.

It literally happened last year.
Burrow won the heisman and is an Ohio State player/graduate.

Some of those are a reach.
Tebow is Florida.
Atlanta is an hour and a half from Auburn.
Griffin played HS ball an hour from Waco.
And OU is virtually in state for north Texas kids.

You’re aware an Ohio State player did not win the Heisman last year, right?

That bait isn't too bad.

So are you faulting coaches for getting the best talent on the board? Or players for deciding where they want to go to college? You are coming off as a bitter LSU fan because Smith is from Amite

Burrow graduated. I think that is satisfying your commitment. He didn’t opt out.

I have him highlighted as being one that did play HS and college in TX.

None of the above. I just thought it was interesting that lately they have not been in the same state. I did add that in the early and mid 2000s they all were. Most of them in California.
