And yes, it does set a horrible precedent if you allow it to happen. Soon, any kid could sign with ND then think, "nope! I change my mind! Let me go!" That can't happen. It could really hurt the program in regards to recruiting and planning.
still waiting to hear about this horrible precedent of 18 year olds being allowed to play some where else.
I mean I know at notre dame sending video guys up into their towers to their deaths is not horrible...but come on really?

Dear, God. You never go full retard.
stating the facts.
College football recruiting is beyond out of control at this point.
Funny even 20 years ago coaches managed to somehow someway recruit players sans all these toys.
Crazy that.

RA'd for sounding like a moron. Might be time to abandon thread and head back to the Poli board.

The reason you don't hear about it is because IT HASN'T BEEN ALLOWED TO HAPPEN. See this situation. See Matthew Thomas. Once you start allowing guys to leave after signing a LOI, it will happen very frequently.

No school in the fricking country would let a guy out of his LOI, especially a big time player like this. I hate notre dame but you are fricking retarded
not true...
has happened.
will happen again.
But remember it's Notre Dame....they are just administrating like champions.

You say that and yet you WANT players to be allowed to be released for free? Imagine recruiting if that happens...

and that is horrible how?
baseball players transfer without penality.
Doesn't seem to harm the university brand in any way.

they don't have to.
they don't have to spend money on weight rooms and training tables and giant fricking scoreboards.
that's a choice by these athletic departments.

Who? Give an example, please. Florida St's doing the EXACT same thing as ND right now.

yup
There shouldn't be a "market" for the services of a college football player.
They are amateurs, allegedly.
You don't need all the bullshite to recruit.
The arms race in college football is beyond ridiculous.

I normally enjoy your posts. And for that I hope you're wasted right now. Because this is one of the worst 'arguments' on the MSB I have seen.
Posted on 6/4/13 at 8:05 pm to asurob1
You have to be trolling, it sets precedent because if they let one guy do it they have to let everyone do it thus making a letter of intent worthless and recruiting a lot more dirty. I take it you dont follow recruiting at all

and
doesn't make it correct.
If my friend punches you in the face, then I do.
Does that make it okay?

Nah, just bored.
The policy is stupid.
Always has been.

IF an athlete could only receive a scholly by signing a LOI, I would partly agree with you.

So I'm assuming based on your posts you'd be in favor of abolishing sitting out a year if you transfer after frosh/soph year, then, correct?
Posted on 6/4/13 at 8:07 pm to asurob1
So a player should be able to hop around schools at will?
