With the Immaculate Reception Anniversary coming up and Franco Harris’s death, I starting thinking how many teams have an iconic play. Radio today was filled with people calling the Immaculate Reception the best play in NFL history. I’m sure you have to account for situations and game magnitude. The only one I could come up with that compares is Montana to Clark.

Others…

Bears - Fridge scoring in SB 20
Bengals -
Bills -
Broncos - Elway helicopter?
Browns -
Bucs -
Cardinals - Larry Fitz TD against the Steelers (albeit in a losing cause; equivalent to Rajai Davis home run in G7 for the Indians v Cubs)
Chargers -
Chiefs -
Colts - Alan Ameche wins first OT game
Commanders -
Cowboys - original Hail Mary
Dolphins -
Eagles - Philly Special
Falcons - Morten’s kick to beat the Vikings
49ers - The Catch
NY Giants - Tyree catch
Jaguars -
Jets -
Lions -
Packers - Starr’s Ice Bowl sneak
Panthers -
Patriots - Tuck Rule
Raiders -
Rams - Mike Jones tackle of Kevin Dyson at the 1
Ravens -
Saints -
Seahawks - Lynch’s TD run against the Saints
Steelers - Immaculate Reception
Texans -
Titans - Music City Miracle
Vikings - Minneapolis Miracle

As historically great as Dallas is, I couldn’t think of a single play that stands out.

Me neither. Maybe Dorsett for 99 yards or whatever it was.

Biggest frickup is Leon Lett....twice.

It’s crazy that both of those were completely irrelevant to the highest level in that Dallas won the SB both years.

This is as good as any. They sacked Bob Griese for a 29 yard loss in their first SB win. That’s up there.

Romo fumbling the snap?

Falcons: that Julio Jones catch in the Super Bowl
Patriots: Tuck rule
Packers: that throw by Aaron Rodgers in the Dallas playoff game
Giants: LT ending Joe Theismann's career
Raiders: Marcus Allen run in the Super Bowl
Eagles: the Philly Special
Browns: the Tim Couch Hail mary in the Superdome
Jets: Butt fumble
Panthers: Cam pulling up on the fumble in the Super Bowl
Commanders: when the guy caught the interception against the Saints but Robert Meachem stripped him for the touchdown
Seahawks: Fail mary
49ers: the Catch
Rams: New Orleans no call
Dolphins: that crazy play at the end of that Patriots game when Gronk was at safety
Bears: double doink
Bills: that Josh Allen touchdown with like 20 seconds left against the Chiefs
Vikings: Minneapolis Miracle

The original Hail Mary? Staubach to Drew Pearson?

Saints - Tracy Porter pick-6
If you went up to a group of loyal NFL fans and asked if they remembered the “Saints’ onside kick” the overwhelming majority if not all would immediately know what you were talking about and the game/circumstances around it

If you asked the same group out of nowhere if they remembered the play that sealed that Super Bowl for the Saints, far fewer are going to say “Porter INT” (either the outcome or the player). It’s a play Saints fans will never forget but it’s not going to be the play most NFL fans remember from that game

Correct answer probably Gleason

I would almost argue Gleason's blocked punt and TD against the Falcons after Katrina is pretty iconic for the Saints as well. Didn't win a Super Bowl obviously so that may knock it down a peg.

So many iconic plays from the 70’s.

Original Hail Mary
Immaculate Reception
Ghost to the Post
Holy Roller

The Raiders were involved in three of them.

Double doink is certainly not the Bears most iconic play ??. Little recency bias there

I’d say either Payton breaking the rushing record, the Fridge TD run in SB20, or Hester Super Bowl Kick-Off return.

I think these are correct. The Raiders have a few that are worthy.

Holy Roller

It changed NFL rules.

The NFL changed the rules the following year, saying only the offensive player who fumbled the ball can advance it in the final two minutes of the game or overtime.

Raiders have been a part of iffy rules...the ones against:

Immaculate Reception
Tuck Rule

John Riggins run to glory in the superbowl, Daryl Grant pick vs Cowboys in NFC title game. Just a few Redskin memories before Snyder wrecked the franchise.
