I mean, he's not vaxxed and apparently has trouble following the COVID avoidance protocol.
He's a potential liability to miss games and they have decided that Mac Jones is their future. Therefore, it kinda makes sense to cut him loose.

That he didn't win the job was the biggest factor but you're sticking out as a liability if you're not able to get through preseason without an issue that only unvaxxed players are subject to.

Was listening to a recent Bill Simmons pod with Bill Schrager and they predicted this would shift Belichick's feelings on Cam since he wants consistency and if he's constantly having to worry that Cam is going to have to sit out for 5 days straight, and if Mac Jones has actually outplayed him in the preseason, it might prompt him to, at the least, name Mac the starter, or what we saw today.

BB isn’t going to want his starting QB to be randomly out for a game because he went to the wrong testing center. It’s a matter of availability, of course it’s going to factor into the camp battle for a starting job. Especially at that position.

If he was winning games, there's no doubt he'd still be on the team regardless of the vaccine stuff. Mac just beat him out.
