So they're gonna basically have 3 max guys, or close to it, with Randolph, Gasol, and Gay?

Somebody will make a mistake, if they try to sign Marc as a max player.

He's a good player, but he's never going to be a go to guy. 3rd or 4th scoring option and a hardworker on defense.

We have the cap space to keep all four. If the team makes the playoffs this year, which they should. Heisley is going to try and hold the core of the team together. Conley, Gay, Randolph, Gasol

The NBA needs to do one of two things:

1. Do open voting for each conference. The top 12-15 vote recipients in each league make the game.

2. Open voting for the entire league and the top 24-30 vote recipients are in the game. The top 2 vote recipients pick their teams.

Nope, it was close to happening though. And would have been huge.

Monta is from Mississippi and really wanted to get back to the South. his mom lives in Millington which is part of the Memphis Metro area.

why?

the NBA has the best all star weekend of any sport. a lot of this is b/c of fan participation

and that all starts with fans voting in the starters

gasol needs to be dealt before he's signed. that move has "frick your franchise" all over it

the deal they gave mike conley was really bad as well. avg is $9M per fricking yera for 14/7 ?
I agree. I like Gasol but not nearly as much as some. I know this past offseason some Hornets fans were talking about maxing him out to bring him to NOLA. I thought it was crazy at the time, and looks even worse now that he's having this mediocre season

i wanted gasol, even over 10M, but not for a long-term contract

big money for 3 years is just enough to see where his peak will be

this year makes me say "naw dog, no thanks"

the hornets are just f'd anyway. it's so sad

What? The main problem with the All-Star Game is the fan vote, because generally fans are wrong about who should be there (See Iverson voted in last year) in addition to the fact that CHINA controls the vote if they want to.

I dont think they're in that bad a spot.

They only have about $40 million tied up next year. Basically Paul, Okafor, Ariza, and Jack

It is unfortunate though that this wasnt the case this past offseason when there were impact guys out there

The Pro Bowl had to deal with the NHL All-Star game, an nba game, and the Royal Rumble, an I guarantee it will have ratings that will nearly double the All-Star game's ratings - despite it having no competing events.

If they really want to satisfy the fans, then let the fans pick all the guys they want to see regardless of position. Hell with the draft option, you'd have the chance to see Kobe and Dwayne playing against LeBron and Dwight. You'll never see that except in an All-Star draft scenario.

2 of those 4 players are not good. 1 is good. 1 is great

assuming the cap stays the same (whcn it likely lowers), that's only $15M or so to spend on FAs

that's 1 max guy

irrelevant, especially since the nba all-star game is on cable

you can't compare football to basketball

and the pro-bowl had record ratings, even with all the competing events, just so you know

If the fans want Yao on crutches instead of Zach Randolph, then that is the way it should be. It will garner more revenue and interest, and, for the most part, the players do not worry too much about being in the All Star game.

yao being a starter means nothing. he's not playing, and somebody else will get his spot

The All-Star Game still won't touch it.

I am just saying that a more popular player is who the fans want to see. I guess Yao was not the best example, but it is not like I could have used Iverson.

Paul is great and Jack is not good, so out of Okafor and Ariza who are you saying is not good?

Paul, Okafor, Ariza have all been integral to the Hornets success this year. Okafor's contract is still a killer though.

Jack has been hit or miss.

I dont think they're in a bad spot. They have a competent GM who i give the benefit of the doubt at this point
