When they become an actual conference again. Do they expect to be have a P5 designation with all the bad teams that will be in that conference?

No but “P5” won’t matter like it used to if the playoff expands anymore

Does it matter? The playoffs just take the 5 highest ranked conference champions plus the next highest ranked non-champions

There's going to be another realignment that have got to be West Coast teams in the mix other than UW Oregon U S C

The two States having this conference ,... other markets

Probably manages to keep them in the future mix as much as Stanford Cal U C L A

I mean, who cares at this point. All this conference stuff for the last 15 years has been so dumb. Geographies been thrown out the window. It’s super hard for a lot of of the schools fans to ever go to an away game at this point.

The only “power” schools today are in the SEC and Big Ten - everyone else is on the outside looking in.

There will be 36-40 “power” schools that will do their own thing outside the NCAA - then the rest of the 80 D1 schools will be what is left of the NCAA.

The money that will come in to the sec and big ten schools simply outpaces everyone else.

You are looking at professional athletics vs amateur athletics….and the gap is wide.

The question is who will be in the 40....

The Big Ten has all but said come 2030 that unequal sharing is coming to the conference...so you know more money for PSU, OSU, etc...but what about Purdue or NW, etc...

ACC said they will do it to keep certain teams...is it better to make 60 million in the ACC and chance to win conference or 75 million in Big Ten and no chance of being top 4-6...

Do they go down a level for football?

It all sucks...

Nobody does.

But realistically a P4 winner is in. Without divisions you're not going to have a terrible team win the CCG. You'd also need two mid major champs to be better.

Unequal sharing is coming in for a chat with the SEC sooner rather than later.

The big boys will eventually cull the Vanderbilts, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Purdue, etc. of the world.

I know for brand purposes Cal and Stanford are acting proud, but I think with their money and university prestige they would still be national moving back to the PAC 12 without having all of their programs flying across the country

I think what people are missing here is that all they need to do to make this a success is become the clear cut 5th best conference, and then try to close the gap to the ACC and Big 12 over time. That's what they're chasing and they have a pretty good chance of doing it.

They just want to be on the right side of the cut line if some restructuring of FBS happens down the road. They have a better chance now than they did in the MW, Sun Belt, or as independents.

It's also fair to point out this is all just deck chairs on the Titanic, but what do you do? Not try?

You are who you play... those brands are too big to be in a conference with Texas State. Honestly Cal and Stanford deserve to be in the Big 10

There just isn't that many good teams left to choose from that aren't already in the big ten or sec.

If we go back to the bcs era, the only teams to ever play in a bcs championship game that arent currently in the big ten or sec are va tech, florida state, miami and notre dame.

In the 4 team playoffs, the only teams to make the playoffs that arent current big ten or sec teams are clemson, florida state (already counted for above), notre dame (already above also), tcu and cincinnati.

Last year a few more new teams made the expanded field but honestly none of the new teams were a threat to actually win anything.

So that's what, maybe 5 teams that actually compete for national championships that the big ten and sec can still take in, and notre dame will never join either conference.

The real shame is all the dead weight at the bottom of the big ten like rutgers and purdue that will make it into the super league while teams like kansas state, utah, north carolina state, and oklahoma state are left behind.

The PAC-12 has been fighting like crazy to continue existing.

I don’t think they’re “expecting” anything.

I agree but I seriously doubt the big 10 isn’t going to use their next expansion round for gutting the ACC
