I don’t think it matters who between Ohio St and Alabama because Clemson will win that game. The whole damn thing is for nothing because Oklahoma will absolutely embarrass Georgia and then beat Clemson in a good game.

Ok not gonna say it but Ohio State has two very bad losses.

Wisconsin has one loss to a conference champion with 2 losses. Alabama lost to a 3 loss conference runner up. If you don't at least make it to your conference championship game, then you don't deserve to make the final 4. /thread

This is my thinking as well.

All of these are conference champions, yet Alabama didn't win their side of the conference, let alone the actual conference.

I realize tOSU has 2 losses but the conference championship has to mean something, otherwise why even play the game?

It was a winner take all with Auburn a week ago, Auburn took it. Bama left out, it should be that simple. If Alabama sneaks in, that's a huge pile of garbage to conference championships, regardless of conference.

(Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying that if you win the conference, you're in automatically, see USC. However, depending on where the teams playing for the championships are ranked, if they're close to being at least #4, they could jump those that do not play for a conference championship, in this case Alabama)

To be the man you gotta beat the man. Bama is still the man program. No reason to leave them out unless the committee reaches.

I wish they would expand the playoffs to eleven teams. Each P5 conference champion gets an automatic bid. Six wildcards. Qualifications could be adjusted a bit for independent teams. The P5 conference champs get a first round bye. This would significantly increase the importance of conference championships. It would also give those teams ranked 12-20 something to really play hard for in the last few weeks of the season.

Auburn did.

There is be no reason to put Alabama in, I don't care how good they are. It shades of 2011 again.

They had their shot and lost. Better luck next year. (not really but that's how it is for every other team)

That's a terrible criterion.

UGA made it solely because they play in a different division. They lost to Auburn worse than Bama did but got a chance to redeem the loss because of geography.

This means nothing because they had already clinched the east before Auburn even played Georgia, let alone Alabama, Georgia was going to Atlanta regardless. Each conference is divided into 2, a north/south or east/west or whatever it's called in the ACC.

In the SEC the winner of the west plays the winner of the east, it's that simple. Winner is conference champion.

Like I stated earlier, it was a winner take all which means exactly that, between Auburn and Alabama. Alabama lost and the winner of the west and who gets the trip to the conference championship is Auburn.

Why should a team that plays one game less than conference champions get in above those champions? Why even have the championship games then?

Alabama are champions of what exactly?

How does the committee justify Alabama ahead of Auburn? More loses versus head to head? Seems like on the field victory is not very weighty then.

They need to go to a 6 or 8 team playoff , I would rather see an 8 team playoff , the power 5 conference champs ( no matter the record) and three at large bids ..

Let this BS committee only make the 3 wildcard selections.. the less power the committee has the better ...

The good thing is there will be some upset people after the selections are made and that’s always good when it’s Bama and Osu fans .

I agree, I believe conf champs should hold the edge.

HOWEVER...

Last year, Penn St = Conf Champ with 2 losses. Ohio St had 1 loss and didn’t play in the BIG CG. So why should the committee backtrack on this precedent?

Also, OSU was already whipped by one of the teams in the playoffs, and their loss to Iowa was BAD.

I think Bama is in.

there should be an unwritten rule that you have to win your conference to play in the playoff. I know Penn state didn't make it last year and i think that was a travesty. you can't make it a rule because of obvious reasons; like way to many conferences. or just make it a 16 team tournament and select the top 16 conferences.

You got the teams right, but not the order.

Clemson
OU
Alabama
Georgia

They aren't going to make Clemson face Saban in the first round. They are the defending champs and clear #1 and will get the more favorable draw.

Clemson vs UGA
OU vs Alabama
