LSU is the second best team in the SEC based on the eye test but their record doesn't prove it.

This current system was screwed from the beginning with 5 conferences chasing 4 spots. The committee said from the very beginning they were going to weight conference champions because they did not want another Lsu/Bama fiasco.

Penn State should, due to whole child-rape coverup thing.

It would be weird to see Ohio State go to the playoff because of the context surrounding the want to end the BCS (Alabama going to the title game even though they were not conference champions).

But one can still weight conference champions (another quality win); that doesn't mean it's a requirement.

And the LSU/Bama situation was quite a bit different since it was between 2 one-loss teams (Oklahoma State and Alabama) and Alabama lost to the an UNDEFEATED team.

This year it would look normal. If Alabama loses Saturday and makes The playoff it won't be weird either.

i get your point, but there is a huge difference

Bama and Oklahoma state had 1 loss. PSU has two

I don't know why you guys keep comparing it to Alabama/LSU. Alabama got in over another one-loss team. That would be more like Ohio State getting in while a one-loss Clemson and/or Washington is left out.

Yeah just like Michigan State last year.

are you saying conference champions don't mean anything? If not, why even bother playing the games. If Michigan and OsU are two best teams we could have ended the season last week. Or better yet, go ahead and give Bama the trophy. There are the best regardless of if they win or not. Correct?

Penn state wins, they're in
Wisconsin wins, Ohio state is in

That's how it should be. But I have a feeling the committee will put Ohio state in regardless.

no, they are valuable but overall resume matters more.

If not, then youre suggesting teams like UF and VaTech have claims to the playoffs if they pull off upsets this weekend

Ohio State won at Oklahoma, at Wisconsin, v Nebraska, v Michigan. Only lost at Penn State.

Penn State won v Ohio State and... Temple? and lost one game by 39 points

By losing out of conference and not having a top 4 record.

Same applies to 2016. I think Ohio State is better than Penn State, although the Buckeyes lost the head-to-head. Also, Penn State may win the conference title. So are we selecting the best or most deserving?
But Ohio State has a better record with a harder out of conference schedule AND in conference schedule.

I mean if Michigan hadn't lost to Iowa on a last second field goal, a game which PSU and OSU had no control over, then OSU would be in the conference championship. Yet, nothing about the teams or their resume prior to the conference championship would have changed.

If you want to say a two loss champion doesn't deserve to go then fine. But how you can pick a team that lost to that team is pretty shitty.

You can argue OSU over Washington or Clemson Wisconsin all day. I just don't think you can argue them over Penn State.

Clemson lost to Pitt also. Does that disqualify them?

The best team does not always win the NCAA basketball tournament, but at least it is settled on the court.

You don't get that we are arguing overall strength of wins and losses. Clemson's overall resume destroys Penn State's resume. They beat Auburn, Louisville and Florida State. Penn State beat Ohio State and that's about it. Ohio State beat Oklahoma, Michigan, and Wisconsin. That's not even getting into the fact that Penn State lost twice.
