not being able to inbound the ball with under 30 seconds left

There aren’t any UNC alum that are hot are rising coaching stars. They only hire UNC people.
This is an opportunity to make a hire free from that restriction.
They’d be in a much worse spot if Wes Miller was a moderate success at Cincinnati. He flamed out, so now he’s off the table, so they could hire most anyone they target.

UF will simply match whatever they offer him

He hasnt done anything without Roy's players. He's not Kenny Payne bad, but UNC has disappeared from the national stage the last 2-3 yrs.
He got a lot of currency off of beating Duke twice on Coach K’s farewell tour. Especially sending them home in the final four. But there is rumblings starting last year that he isn’t the right guy or shouldn’t be the head coach there anymore.

I’m not a huge fan of his but let’s not forget they were having a pretty solid top 15 season before they lost a top 3 player in Caleb Wilson and had already beaten Duke in Chapel Hill. I mean you take a top 3 NBA guy like that off any team in the country and there is going to be a huge decline.
I agree with this. But in my opinion UNC shouldn’t be depending on one player to save their season. Even with Wilson, there were some head scratching losses.

Don’t care how many games he wins, they won’t hire that gel head.

Losing Wilson hurt, but they weren’t a likely title contender even with him. Davis really hasn’t gotten the roster right since he took over.
As an example, Seth Trimble is a nice player that could contribute on a contending team, but there’s no way a program like UNC should be so dependent on him as a lead guard and scoring threat. On a vintage UNC team, he’s probably the 3rd or 4th guard.
Their wing play has also been rough for a few years.
It’s one thing to have a couple transitional roster years pre-transfer portal when a couple recruiting classes don’t pan out. That happens. It’s quite another thing when you’re leading a big money program in the transfer portal era and basically points to serious talent evaluation issues. They spent lot of money on this team.

Yes, Hubie needs to go.... I was never a fan of the hire. He's gotten away with plenty of big time wins, but rarely can you say anything was because of coaching.
When you have a structured enviornment like you do at a blue blood like Carolina, you will be able to just walk out of bed and do things most schools cannot. He's gotten away with alot of that.
Carolina lacked guard play this year. That was their biggest glaring hole. Yes, losing Caleb Wilson hurt, but they had depth at Forward that can make up for that, the inconsistency at Guard this year is what did them in. Coddeau leaving hurt, yes he's not doing amazing at Michigan, but he would have been that piece that Carolina needed this year. Unfortunate.
Carolina will only hire from within.
Wes Miller was on my short list of guys that should get a look, but as he was rising he's kind of leveled off at Cincy...
Is that because his resources are also leveled off there? We'll see.
I don't believe they would allow Sean May an opp to take over, there are some other former players that are in the system...
Jerry Stackhouse has been lingering, but didn't do much at Vandy...

Classic AI Response:

While Hubert Davis is under contract through 2030, potential future UNC basketball coaching candidates, often discussed within the "Carolina Family" tradition, include Wes Miller (Cincinnati), Jerry Stackhouse (formerly Vanderbilt), and King Rice (Monmouth). Other names mentioned include mid-major successes like Takayo Siddle (UNC Wilmington).
Top Potential Future Candidates (If Position Opens)
Wes Miller (Cincinnati): A former 2005 UNC national champion player, his name is frequently linked to the job due to his strong coaching, despite inconsistencies at Cincinnati.
Jerry Stackhouse (Vanderbilt): A Tar Heel alum with NBA assistant and head coaching experience.
King Rice (Monmouth): Former UNC player and coaching staff member under Dean Smith, known for rebuilding the Monmouth program.
Takayo Siddle (UNC Wilmington): Has proven success at the mid-major level with a high winning percentage, making him an intriguing, younger candidate.
Jerod Haase: Former UNC assistant and head coach at Stanford, now moving within the coaching ranks

They need to stay as far away from Stack as they can. He's a good assistant, but as head coach he is trash.

Now that's a name i have not heard in a long time
Hubert is one of my all time favorite Carolina players, but its time for him to go.

No one on that list is remotely qualified for the UNC job. If those are the options they should keep Hubert.

If Carolina goes outside the Carolina family, it wont be to hire the first year coach of High Point

he shouldn't have even made it to the postgame presser.

I mean should it mean a first round bounce? Usually not.
But you take away the primary scorer from a top 15 team and stuff like this happens.

And that's why they are sticking with Hubie and have these past few years...
If you go outside the Carolina Family it needs to be a Slam Dunk...
Nate Oats was rumored a few times... I could see it happening/working.
Again though, as long as ROY is around he will want to do right by DEAN and keep it in house...
