Nadal at 16, plays for 17 Sunday.

Federer's at 20.

I think Federer is going to have to take one personally from him (beat him in the finals or semis) to keep him at bay. I also think if Fed only gets one more they likely end up tied.

Ultimate prediction:

Fed wins Aus and Wimbledon once more ending at 22.
Rafa wins 2 more US Open and 3 more French (including Sunday), ending at 21.

If Nadal beats Fed in Wimbledon I think the final records are reversed. 22 Nadal, 21 Fed.

What say ye?

I think it ends at about 20-20. I can't see Fed winning more than one more. Nadal is probably good for 2-4.

Nadal needs to remove gluten from his diet if he ever wants to be good again

If I had to bet today, I would say Fed wins more going forward than Nadal

Even with Fed being older, Nadals body is always a ticking time bomb

I think he does just because I think you can pencil him in for the next 3-4 French opens and he could still take another of the grand slam tournaments also. I don’t see Federer getting more than 21 total

Wow, really? He looked like a BEAST today. No one hits the ball that consistently deep and heavy.

Fed went through the Aus open like melted butter 4 months ago, how quickly we forget

He also won wimby without dropping a set last year

Federer is my favorite player, I just hope he defends his record. He seems like he could be a floater in draws for a decade...whether he gets a bunch more or not IDK. I think/hope he wins 2 more though.

There is absolutely no way to predict this.

A mere 3 years ago Nadal and Fed were done winning any grand slams

We all thought it was over

Now between the two of them they have won the last 5 soon to be 6 grand slams

Federer has won 3 of the last 4 grand slams he's participated in over the last 2 years, with his best grand slam yet to come.

Obviously Nadal dominates the French Open, so he's always going to have a great chance to win, even as he ages. On the other hand, he's 6 of 38 (15.8%) in the other 3 tournaments whereas Federer is 19 of 55 (34.5%).

So even if he's on the backside of his career, and will probably play in fewer tournaments overall, he's got a better chance to win 3 out of the 4 tournaments each year he can play. Assuming Nadal wins and Federer then has a 3 win advantage, the odds are clearly in Federer's favor already.

There was a great stat a few years ago (like nobody has won more than three majors after 29?), but I think Djoker, Nadal, and Fed have blown by that. Looks like 538 delved into these issues a bit:

I have enjoyed the second prime of both of these guys immensely. Fed is going to age out before Rafa, logic suggests, so that is in Rafa's favor, but I think the field is too strong for Rafa to win another major on a surface other than red dirt...I expect Fed to win Wimbledon again this year, but that is without seeing him for two months. I don't think he holds up through the summer hardcourt season and wins another US Open, however. IMO, his best shot at a non-Wimbledon slam is another Oz Open.

I would almost pencil in Rafa for at least one more RG in addition to this one, but that is of course waaay premature. My guess is that Rafa ends with 18 or at best 19 and Fed 21. I just don't see Rafa winning Wimbledon, but if he wins there and/or NY, then watch out. If Zverez can get over the hump, I think he is potentially a very big obstacle to Rafa catching Roger.

My thoughts exactly. Nadal 18. Fed 21.

No Nadal won’t win anything besides more French Opens. Fed’s shown he’s good for 1 or 2 more. If Fed wins 1 more there’s no chance Nadal can win 6 more French Opens.

Why won't Nadal win anything besides more French Opens?

If Rafa doesn't get the hip injury against Cilic, the count would be 19 to 18.

And how certain are you that Fed will win 1-2 more?

And will you in fact off yourself if Rafa ends up with more than Fed? LINK

I don't know who bobby is.

I won't deny being a fanboy, but that doesn't make the statement wrong.

I think the craziest thing is Novak was going to have a great shot at the most Grand Slams ever just a few years ago. He was looking unbeatable. Fed and Nadal were essentially done in most people's minds. Then Novak's body broke down. If he had stayed healthy, we probably have three guys between 16-20 Grand Slams right now.
