Yeah I don’t know how you go about correcting it either.

I do think it needs to go towards super conferences, remove all cupcake games from schedules, expand the playoffs

The lack of defense isn’t what has turned me off of CFB. It’s become to corporate. The naming of bowl games, especially major bowl games, bothers me

The predictably of it all is also exhausting. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, [INSERT OTHER TEAM] all make the playoffs

The BCS era was the peak of college football.

The sport just doesn’t have that wide open feel it used to, Saturday’s used to feel like pure anarchy that changed the landscape of the season. You still have upsets but they’re largely meaningless.

It’s become a sport where few teams are relevant

It's been that way for at least 8 years.

Same fricking teams, even the SEC became basically irrelevant because it was just Bama every year. Maybe LSU has a special year and that's about it.

Bama, Bama, Bama, Clemson, Clemson, Ohio State, Bama, Clemson-Bama.

This years looks like it will be no different. (if a playoff actually happens, doubt it.)

There was that thread, do you miss the Pac12 being relevant?

It's not just the Pac12, it's other Conferences too.

CFB needs to be a National sport where Conferences have some parity...not just the same teams that own the Conference every year.

I never understood why fans wanted the SEC to just take over CFB and make it a regional sport like Nascar.

That's not healthy for the sport, nor is it fun to watch...people tune out, they get sick and tired of the same teams.

People on the West Coast and Midwest aren't tuning in to watch Bama, they want to see their own teams. That's why the Bama-Georiga title game was I think the lowest rated ever.

You need National parity and change of teams - that's why the 80's were so great...even when Miami was great they won 3...not 6. And the 2000's, even when USC was great they won 2, not 6.

You can have dominant teams but when they're in the title game every fricking year...fans tune out.

Three super teams. Alabama, Clemson, OSU.
Mix in UGA, LSU, Fla, OU type teams for your fourth spot.
That's not healthy for the sport. I don't know what can be done

I mean, that has always been CFB. When is the last time we saw a first time national champ? 1993 FSU?

How is making players choose another school they will most likely get to play at instead of sit on the bench making it more difficult on the players?

If you restrict scholarships across the board, less players get an opportunity.

Is it really that hard to understand?

Reduce each FBS team to 65 = 1,300 less scholarships

From 1997 to 2007, there was 1 repeat champion.

I bet there were probably 16 different teams that played in the BCSNCG

Put on the Pitt/FSU game.
Pitts Dline is dominating FSU. 6 or so sacks, 2 diff FSU QBs running for their lives.

Can’t disagree with much there

And yes I miss the pac 12 being relevant, it’s more fun. When you can just ignore a region that’s not good for the sport, again less relevant games

Hell Thursday night football used to be must watch

Yes really. We are only talking 10-15 scholarships. That’s very easy to spread out over multiple programs even with the reductions. Hell baseball itself needs a minimum of 5 more scholarships

These sports are barely hanging on. If you give colleges an out by reducing football scholarships, they won't be allocated to non-revenue generating sports.

Please stop.

It's kind of even more interesting that USC, Texas, and the Florida schools can't win big in this day and age. Those states play 7 on 7 and that's basically what football is starting to turn into

I would argue upsets happen less now than ever because of the spread. It feels like every scoring drive is under three minutes and the longer the game goes gives the better team a chance to win. We simply don’t see teams having 5-7 minute drives in college football anymore. In college basketball you don’t try to play up tempo with a team more talented than you. You try to shorten the game with the least amount of possessions.

From the 1998 season to the 2007 season, 12 (out of a possible 20) different teams played in the national championship.

That's a 60% rate

From the 2008 season to the 2013 season, 9 (out of a possible 12) different teams played in the national championship

That's a 75% rate

From the 2014 season to the 2019 season, 11 (out of a possible 24) different teams MADE the playoffs.

That's a 46% rate with an allowance of FOUR TEAMS

There is a clear loss of parity in College Football and it's hurting it's national brand.

An occasional 35-30/35/31 game is okay , but Defenses have been neutered ( moreso in the NFL). A taut 20-17 slobber knocker is far more entertaining to me than the dink & donk / chuck & duck game it has become.

Penn State 14-10 win over Miami (1987) was one of the most exciting CFB games I ever watched.

Texas unable to get its shite together in that conference is amazing, all those resources and nothing

USC accepting mediocrity also isn’t good for the sport

Ironically enough these programs I hated growing up are hurting the sport by sucking

USC, Notre Dame, Miami, and Texas being good is good for the sport in many ways. Mainly in breaking up the talent vacuum that Clemson and Alabama have going for them.
