Grant Hill was disappointing?? Since when?

18 year career, 7x NBA All Star, All NBA 1st team once, All NBA 2nd team twice. Great defenders and averaged 17ppg, 6 rebs and 4 assists during his 18 year career.

Would hardly call that a disappointing career.

His career started off great with the Pistons but Hill had a rough stretch from 2000-2004 when he only played 47 games bc of injury. That would've been his prime.

He managed to manufacture a nice second act in the NBA as a great glue guy and role player, but I think his career would be labeled as disappointing because he could've been one of the all time greats.

He was a great player but EVERYONE agrees he wasn't nearly the player he was after he got injured, which means his career was disappointing because of his injury.

Penny

This thread launched me into a Penny Hardaway youtube videos spree. So much fun to watch. He was an expert at making difficult passes and layups look easy.

I was listening to Gary Parrish on the radio a week or two ago and he said if you talk to any coach that was around at the time and they will tell you he was the GOAT high school basketball player they have ever seen.

Duke homer.

chill brah, I invoked my TD right to get a little off topic/ not exactly follow what the OP intended. I kinda focused on the injury problems a number of Dukies have had. K is cursed!

My first thought was Penny, but I saw he had been mentioned multiple times. Dude was ill, Nas style.

You know. To use another 90's reference.

ETA: Just watched the highlight video of Penny posted earlier. Man. Dude was so nasty.

Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway were what LeBron is/was before LeBron was LeBron - minus the freak athleticism of course.

Hill definitely didn't have the athleticism.

Hardaway, though...he was pretty freakish. Maybe not a LeBron level freak, but he was a freak.

That gif is confusing because I see where he takes off from and realize how ridiculous it is, but at the same time he makes it look so easy that it hurts the impressiveness of it.

I don't think he means that Hill wasn't a great athlete, because he obviously was, but he wasn't LeBron level freak. Hell there are only a few players in the history of the nba that have that level of athleticism.

Yao, Oden. Two guys I would've turned the channel to watch.

I don't know what to say to this; Hill is one of the biggest athletic freaks in the history of the NBA.

Here's a few dunk highlights from his career-- and its not just jamming over stiffs-- its embarassing guys like Pippen, Mourning, and Moutumbo.

Ten Best NBA Dunks of Grant Hill

It isn't even touching on his remarkable dunk in the '91 title game on a horrifically errant Bobby Hurley pass-- and even a number of those Top 10 dunks are after injuries had robbed him of a good deal of his explosiveness.

Guys like Grant Hill don't come into the league every year, or even every 5 years.

He made Pippen look bad on that video.

Grant Hill was the bridge between Jordan and Kobe, and who knows if Kobe ever would have been Kobe is hill stays healthy and is dominant in Kobe's formative years.

Not for all his injuries starting from high school, I think Randy Livingston would've been an elite NBA pg.

The guy could really deliver the ball. Great vision.
