Did Hank Aaron use steroids?

i've always seen it as a possibility... n after last year, i don't understand how Hank Aaron was hitting more HRs in the 50s, 60s, n 70s than anyone in baseball did last year and most did the year before. Are we to believe that Hank had more power than todays players in an era where players didn't use weight training?
quote:
HR% is defined as being the number of HRs per 100 ABs.
Age HRs HR%
33 44 7.3
34 39 6.5
35 29 4.8
Nothing unusual about these statistics; it is a typical profile of a slugger in decline as he ages. But then Hank began to undergo an 'enhancement.'
Age HRs HR%
36 44 8.0
37 38 7.4
What explains this spike at a latter age? Expansion? Perhaps. But then what happens?
Age HRs HR%
38 47 9.5
39 34 7.6
Hank...What's going on buddy? Aaron's HR% were TOPS in the NL in both 1971 and 1972. Hmm.
Age HRs HR%
40 40 10.2
Which leads us to 1973 when at age 40 in just 392 at bats, juiced 40 HR's for a HR% of 10.2. Once again TOPS in NL for the THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR and the HIGHEST HR% in the ENTIRE 23 year career of Hank Aaron.
Hank Aaron at 40 was not the only Atlanta Brave to hit 40 Hrs that season. Teammates Darrell Evans and Davey Johnson blasted 41 and 43 HRs respectively.

i'm only posting this because i don't see how we can keep Bonds/Clemens/A-Rod out of the Hall of Fame when we have no proof guys in the past weren't using as well

Can't wait for the "Did Tom Dempsey use steroids?" thread

It is not out of the realm of possibility. Tom House was his teammate at the time and is an admitted steroid user.

I agree. Im sure there are several players in the hall that were on it, they just weren't caught. Problem with the players mentioned is everyone knows they did do it. I think most people are fine with these players getting in, its the Hall voters who will always do everything in their power to keep them out.

what about that babe ruth guy? he was hitting 50-60 homers a year in an era when before him the record was 27. babe ruth invented steroids

If anything it shows how obvious it was Bonds took the juice. It is one thing to increase your Home runs by 10 year over year, but when you average about 32 Home runs a year and then you blast over 70, something is up.

I saw Aaron at the end of his career. He was an athlete with amazing bat speed. Just my opinion, but I would say it was all natural.

or when at the age of 35 you hit a career high of 49 homers then the next year you add 24 to that for 73. when most people slow down due to age, you hit your prime!

everybody in baseball took steriods

not supporting steriod use in any sport but if Hank was on the juice he didnt break any law. They were not deemed a controlled substance until 1990
quote:
The history of the U.S. legislation on anabolic steroids goes back to the late 1980s, when the U.S. Congress considered placing anabolic steroids under the Controlled Substances Act following the controversy over Ben Johnson's victory at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. During deliberations, the American Medical Association (AMA), Drug Enforcement Administration(DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) all opposed listing anabolic steroids as controlled substances, citing the fact that use of these hormones does not lead to the physical or psychological dependence required for such scheduling under the Controlled Substance Act. Nevertheless, anabolic steroids were added to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act in the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 1990.[104] The same act also introduced more stringent controls with higher criminal penalties for offenses involving the illegal distribution of anabolic steroids and human growth hormone.
quote:
The NFL banned the use of steroids in 1983. The NBA banned them in 1999, and the NHL in 2005. Major League Baseball banned them in 1991, although obviously that ban went un-enforced until 2004.

greenies (uppers) were the drug of choice during hank's latter years in baseball

Not sure of Ruth cheating with steroids but he did have a short outfield fence to hit over. So short it would have been routine fly balls in today's game.

THIS x 1,000,000!!!!
Baseball ignores the frick out of this. So do writers. They don't want to look. Greenies could easily go into the "golden age" of baseball.
Think Mickey Mantle would have been above "beaning up?"
Impossible to prove. And it is hard to pile onto guys who are now old men or dead, but there is probably no better performance enhancer than amphetamines. Except steroids.

Whiskey was the Mick's "drug" of choice.

Saying Aaron useds roids is like saying Cal Ripken used roids. Roids didn't help Bonds HIT a baseball. It just helped him hit it farther. Aaron was natural, Argument for the GREATEST OF ALL-TIME. Alot of #'s show this.

Apparently outliers existed in past, but not in more recent times.
