Did Curry just have the worst finals for an MVP, ever?

Of the 22 times a player appeared in The Finals the same year he won the MVP, Curry had the worst scoring average (more than a point lower than Malone in 1997), eighth-lowest assists per game, second-worst steals per game, second-worst turnovers per game

Is his size and the way he plays a problem by the time the finals roll around? Obviously the injury early in the playoffs was a freak accident, and it might have had something to do with this finals. But, there isn't any doubting that he hasn't been elivating his play in the finals. Why is this?

I'd say when Curry can't shake Kevin Love when hes got him iso'd on the perimeter he may be a weee bit banged up.

I think he is a phenomenal player. But when the defense gets that uptick in the playoffs/finals, and guys close out on defense that extra little amount, it hampers his game. He is still very good, but he isnt all time level elite

I wouldn't blame his bad play on injury. He looked fine to me the entire series, injury wise, but I would say it had more to do with the pressure of losing after a great season as well as the brilliant defense the Cavs played when it mattered.

I'm leaning towards this. I'd like to see how he does in the finals a couple more times, though. I definitely think he's capable of pulling of a historic series, but everything would have to go right.

People are going to give him a pass because of the injury, but he wasn't much better last year and was perfectly healthy.

26.0/5.2/6.3 with 1.8 steals, .2 blocks, and 4.7 turnovers per game with 54.5% eFG% ( he was at 53.2% eFG% this year).

Those aren't MVP numbers.

Did he win the MVP that year? I realize it sounds a bit weird to focus on just MVP seasons, but the NBA puts a premium on MVPs and how they play and storylines and shite. I thought it was relevant.

As a 22 year old and 2 years before he won his first MVP, but you knew that already.

Or Curry is just stupid insisting on shooting a 3 instead of driving to basket. Everyone is banged up in the finals boom.

OR it's because Love knew he wanted to shoot the 3 so stayed tight on him (giving him the lane) and Curry played right into that. Idk if it's worst ever but he was TERRIBLE in the fourth quarter of game 7

Cleveland was playing very physical defense on Steph. They bumped him any chance they got. Dude was, without question, the most physically-weak player on the court.

It didn't help that on that there play, the 3 point line was basically a huge defender that Love knew had the help. He knew Curry would act like it was a wall of fire Most NBA players can play defense when the threat of a dribbler moving towards the basket isn't there.

There's a difference between someone being banged up and a fan at home not being able to tell he's banged up v what we saw with Curry to where it was clear as day to everyone watching that he wasn't himself.

Curry shook people(everyone tbh) all year regardless of if they were giving him the lane or giving him the shot.
