He is a sheltered Mormon. I'd buy it, but I honestly don't believe it.
thats where i stand now, seems impossible. i suppose if he really wanted to clear his name he will be able to though.

I remember watching that segment and noticing he called her a friend and not a girlfriend. It didn't add up.
He definitely didn't seem too close to her the way he referenced her.
Eta: he didn't correct the reports though...it would do too much damage to his hype machine

There was no Lennay Kekua. Lennay Kekua did not meet Manti Te'o after the Stanford game in 2009. Lennay Kekua did not attend Stanford. Lennay Kekua never visited Manti Te'o in Hawaii. Lennay Kekua was not in a car accident. Lennay Kekua did not talk to Manti Te'o every night on the telephone. She was not diagnosed with cancer, did not spend time in the hospital, did not engage in a lengthy battle with leukemia. She never had a bone marrow transplant. She was not released from the hospital on Sept. 10, nor did Brian Te'o congratulate her for this over the telephone. She did not insist that Manti Te'o play in the Michigan State or Michigan games, and did not request he send white flowers to her funeral. Her favorite color was not white. Her brother, Koa, did not inform Manti Te'o that she was dead. Koa did not exist. Her funeral did not take place in Carson, Calif., and her casket was not closed at 9 a.m. exactly. She was not laid to rest.

Lennay Kekua's last words to Manti Te'o were not "I love you."

I took a nap on page 10 an hour ago. 32 pages later, what did I miss?

just saw a tweet that said ESPN has known about this story for 10 days
Took Joe Schad that long to confirm his sources?

if he really was duped it would be much easier to just say they broke up instead of making up lies about her death. he was clearly in on this

quote:My point is that I'm sure he had no idea how big that story would become.
I just told you. It gained a ton of publicity for him which is why he made it up and he for some reason he has a mental block that prevented him from seeing the consequences of his actions if he was to be caught.
So he couldn't have done it for publicity.
I mean, let me get this straight... he duped his parents, friends, etc. for months because he was plotting on going public saying that his girlfriend died of Liukemia after she got in a car accident, all for some publicity?
Sorry, but that doesn't really add up...

Who would have guessed one of the more prominent Mormons (or Hawaiians) in the country would get stopped by a missing birth certificate?

Not that it was ever in question, but this is just more evidence that ESPN is nothing more than an agenda driven machine rather than a news outlet.

He has no logical argument to back up that he was duped
So she dies....did no one go to her funeral? etc etc. There are basic questions and answers that can determine how bad he is lying

What playoff games this weekend? This story has been the most entertainment in sports so far this year

Deadspin will have to report that too.
They just gained serious street cred.
