I'm in this camp. He was being catfished by his friend. He finds out early on. Real early. Plays it off and maybe even keeps up appearances to save face with family and friends. Eventually as the years and months go by the "relationship" and the hoax take on a different role. They are starting to get buzz. Te'o might be getting some pub and he sees what he believes is a great opportunity to "kill her" and gain more publicity.
The interviews pile up and there are discrepancies and clearly suspicious statements and comments about "her" The story gets bigger and bigger.
But this isn't a stupid comedy movie. He doesn't walk off into the sunset having gained fame and fortune. This is real life, so his hoax is eventually found out and he is now the laughing stock of American sports today.

Why is everybody on ESPN calling Te'o a victim? Even if he was duped(lulz), he has obviously lied about so much, along with mentioning her after he

My biggest bone to pick with whoever is giving Te'o advice........why not fricking get ahead of this before his life is ruined even more and he becomes suicidal? The longer he waits to figure out what to say, the more guilty he is. It's a fact.
