Derrick Favors wanted to go to New Orleans so Utah did him a favor. Clearly New Orleans is currently the most desired location in the league.

Same with the Lakers guys. This is the only possible conclusion we could come to.

Favors was not a guy who could have gone wherever he wanted. Or even close to it. Favors is not really very good. He appeared that he was gonna have a promising career when he first entered the league. But never really progress.

I mean, yeah Lebron giving zero commitment ever and holding them hostage to make bad roster moves for a couple years to try to keep him probably isn’t fun as a GM.

Well it had to be like that.

Cavs management had proven in the past that they weren't going to do the right thing unless they were held hostage.

In any event, frequently, building a champion isn't very fun. It's stressful. Everyone would be doing it if it were fun.

I suggest people read the actual article, which is great and has context, not this hot take article pulling quotes out of context.

Here was the actual context, not the ESPN added context:
quote:

They of course found vindication in 2016, historically overcoming a 3-1 series deficit against the 73-9 Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. The following season, however, brought that fantasy summer crashing back to reality. James’ contagious hunger to deliver a championship for Northeast Ohio dissipated. “There wasn’t a lot else for him,” Griffin says. “I don’t think he’s the same animal anymore about winning.”
He was clearly referring to the season after the Finals win, where the Cavs (and LeBron) came out and didn't try nearly as hard as they did in the previous season.

Regardless, is it tampering to talk shite about a player on another team?

quote:

the letter of the law is that "no player, coach or management person may entice or induce a player under contract with another team to play for his team,"
Griff clearly doesn't want LeBron on his team.

isnt it? ive always been under the assumption that executives and what not can not make any comment about any player under contract with another team

No, tampering is when you attempt to induce or entice a player that is under contract with another team to come to your team. It doesn't say that you can't ever mention the name of a player who is on another team.

ETA: if the Lakers are butthurt about the comments, they are capable of reaching out to the league office about this issue, where they can be laughed at

It's a little silly the ESPN summary leaves out a lot of positive things Griffin said about LeBron.

quote:

“You’ve got to be willing to have very difficult conversations with LeBron,” Griffin says. “I always was, which is why we had a great relationship, because I would tell him what he needed to hear and he respected that I was telling him that for the right reasons.”

quote:

James accepted the GM’s feedback along the way. “He knew I could help him win,” Griffin says.

I don't doubt that it's tough to manage the pressure that comes with LeBron, but LeBron doesn't come off a villain or someone impeding Griffin when you win the SI article. The big villain seems like a complete championship or bust mentality along with LeBron where the other things didn't matter.

Per Bobby Marks, this is the NBA rule on tampering:

quote:

Under NBA tampering rules, no player, coach or management person may entice or induce a player under contract with another team to play for his team.

Come on bro every time lebron fails it is because he “didn’t have enough help”. The Man went 1-8, 1-8 in the finals v goat warriors and took no heat. It was excused.

40% of people blame Lebron for everything and give him no credit

40% of people give Lebron all the credit and give him no blame

20% judge each individual action and moment

It’s crazy to say he gets no blame

Why wouldn’t Lebron get the credit?

Cle would 100% not have won a championship if Lebron didn’t play there.

Griffin hated his job because the method was inorganic and how Lebron was acquiring players that won that championship.

Seems like Lebron deserves the credit for the championship.

ETA: And Griffin got TONS of run and love in the media.

Griff is as close to the situation as possible and he is telling you what I been telling for years. you need to go ahead and re evaluate the way you look at these kinda things.
