A little late to the Altuve injury discussion, but I just wanted to say I hate the WBC.

All these loser arse players and fans from other franchises are now getting all Carmelo-Anthony-at-the-olympics trying to act like this is comparable to a World Series.
"Trea Turner says thats the biggest homerun of his life! Derrrr!!" Shut up Ken Rosenthal, you fricking midget.

It is entirely hate, but I don't want anyone in the baseball world happy except for Houston.

This year was always gonna be a tank job. This just makes. It easier to take. Go spend time with your family and forget this season.

Turner at least has played in and won a World Series to compare.

If you watched the interview, it was a very solicited answer from Turner on Ken Rosenthals part. Turner wasn’t exactly volunteering it.

I went to 3 WBC games the very first year they had it at Anaheim stadium. I saw Team Japan twice that year, once was against USA. That was one of the most fun baseball experiences I've been to (I'm excluding my attendances to world series games as there is no comparison there).

I also went to a couple of games in the next WBC at Dodger stadium and saw Japan get revenge against USA. Absolute blast for a fan experience.

Every year you have other countries complain about the World Series champion being called "World Champ" because they are only the MLB champ. The WBC actually takes out that argument.

I don't like the injuries and wish they would split the tournament up a bit. Perhaps have the first round the last few days of Spring Training, and then have the Semifinals and Finals over an expanded All Star break and make it part of the All-Star festivities. Not sure how that would work, just spitballing.

Anyway, not trying to convince anyone why you should like it. But just trying to give some perspective on why I like it. If my travel schedule had permitted, I would have flown to Taiwan for Pool A play and then to Miami for the semi/finals.

Yes, Turner's statement about his homerun was bullshite. But make no mistake, the players are having a lot of fun playing these games.

It is fun baseball.

I love WBC. Wish they would do it mid season every 2 years. Wpuld be bad arse.

More stuff like this ans less 162 game seasons of which 75% are meaningless and boring af.

Urquidy unusually struggled with control, but the Cuban adopted by Mexico made some catches in LF and he gave up no runs

Speaking of Arozarena playing for Mexico, how long before the Saudis put together a LIV baseball collection?

Trout VS Ohtani for the last out of the WBC.

Ohtani threw Trout fastballs that hit 99 then 100. Then threw him a 102 fastball off the plate which Trout took for a ball.

Then Ohtani just mindfricked Trout with the nastiest 87 mph slider.

Game over.

I love watching that dude play.

ETA: and not a single bunt attempt by Kyle frickin Schwarber. Guess he learned him something in the World Series.

---yeah, right. Look at the roster and compare it to Crane's first year as owner, when he really tanked.

Last year we were relatively healthy. This year which hasn't even started we've got some injury issues. Cool.

Altuve- 8-10 weeks, likely out til June

Tucker- ankle, I assume day to day, but didn't play in the last 2 WBC games

Javier- Lost 2 mph on his fastball after ramping up too quick

Brown- lower back tightness, hopefully not Kershaw disease

Are there any others?

Opening day lineup. Order is because the replacement MUST hit in the spot of the player he is replacing per FODB guidelines.

this is fine.

Hensley 2B
Matijevic DH
Meyers LF
Breg 3B
Chas RF
Abreu 1B
Peña SS
Dubon CF
MM C

For those wondering about Tucker, he hasn’t played since they had to amputate his ankle after he fouled a ball off it at the WBC. Fully expect a DL stint. Sarcasm obviously but who knows the way we treat injuries.

Neris velo was down considerably yesterday to the point that Maldy flagged it and had trainers come out. He stayed in the game, said he was fine and that it was nothing. But

quote:

Hector Neris finished his inning after the trainer visited him, but he sat 90-92 on the stadium gun here at Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. He's usually 94-96. He gave Dusty Baker a thumbs up in the dugout.
