Agree to disagree I guess. It is difficult to deliver value on that kind of deal as a corner OF. Harper, Betts, Judge are the type of corner OF guys who have gotten 10+ ish years at 300+ Mil. Tucker is good but he is not on that level, even if he got a deal a step below those guys. Maybe I’m underestimating how much the market has gone up but I don’t think Tucker should require that kind of price

I agree. I would be happy to lock him up to a long term deal

The Astros system, maligned externally as it is, has its greatest strength in outfield talent. So I suspect the team and Tucker will not come close on an actual deal. Could Ted get even better and make them regret it? Sure.

It's about time you chime in
WTH?
Do I sense some relinquishment of DAT responsibilities to accommodate your personal needs?

I'm resting on the laurels of another championship.

Teams with $200 million+ contracts:
Brewers
Twins
Mariners
Braves
Reds
Angels (2)
Nats
Cardinals
Padres (3)
Phillies (2)
Red Sox
Yankees (3)
Rangers
Mets
Dodgers
Tigers
Teams with $300+ million contracts:
Phillies (2)
Red Sox
Yankees (3)
Rangers
Padres (2)
Dodgers
Angels
So we're keeping company with...
Orioles
Rays
Marlins*
A's
Royals
Diamondbacks*
Giants*
Rockies*
White Sox
Blue Jays
Guardians
Cubs
Pirates
Added asteriks by teams that gave out $200+ million contracts or in the Giants case with Correa, intended to before it fell apart. If you tack on teams that have given out larger financial commitments than our current max, it adds on the Rockies, Cubs, Orioles and Rays. So as far as opening the long term wallet, we're rubbing elbows with:
A's*
Royals*
White Sox*
Blue Jays
Guardians
Pirates*
The asterik teams here have never given a $100M+ contract. So when you boil it all down, essentially our long term commitment peers are the Guardians and Blue Jays
Springer 6/150
Ramirez 7/141
Brewers
Twins
Mariners
Braves
Reds

I don’t see Crane falling back to Cleveland/Kansas City spending levels if that’s what you’re implying by framing it this way. Their stance on long term deals is known and I don’t expect winning another title is going to change it.

I think the biggest thing with him is that he is such a baseball traditionalist. I think if possible, he'd be a guy that wants to play just one place and be known for it. I think he will stay for a decent deal for him. He talked a lot about it when he signed the current one and it will be interesting to see if he changed his tune.

Your post is logical, lucid, well documented and quite informative.
I'll add a bit of information to your post, yet will do a much shittier job than you:
Of the teams with mega-contracts, list of WS wins since 2015 (arguably when these mega-contracts started coming into vogue):
Braves
Nats
Dodgers*
Teams Not on the $200million+ list that have won a WS since 2015
Kansas City
Chicago Cubs
Astros (2)
Teams on the $200million+ list that haven't made a post season since 2015 (or longer):
Angels
Rangers
Reds
Yes, spending helps you win *more* games, traditionally. But it doesn't guarantee wins.

Sure and I was getting a bit long winded in that post but to spur off it and tie back into our other discussion, you can look at some of those $200 million deals and several have ended up in area of regret...
Votto
Pujols
Cabrera
Yelich
Rendon
Strasburg
Price
I mean I guess Pujols, Votto and Miggy were fine for a while and then you inevitably and as expected get into the upper aged years of diminished performance.

Pujols and Cabrera were terrible deals by every measure
Posted on 3/9/23 at 2:00 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Yeah I just went and looked at Miggys stats over this contract and his decline started earlier than I remember. Hasn't hit more than 16 homers since 2016.
Posted on 3/9/23 at 2:04 pm to Lsuhoohoo
Yeah they did it two years ahead of when it kicked in. It was pretty insane. First base is just a very high bar to clear for that kind of long term money

Tuve in today's exhibition against the Mets
1st inning: 1st pitch HR
2nd inning: 1st pitch HR
