Lance McCullers Jr.'s Tommy John surgery — coupled with Charlie Morton and Dallas Keuchel's free agency — means 499 innings of starting pitching are gone from the 2017 Astros

Could benefit your Yankees
Eovaldi coming home?

Morton and Eovaldi to the Astros and then sign a stop-gap or allow the kids a shot?

If we signed Morton and Eovaldi we wouldn’t need a stop gap
Oh nvm I saw you said “or”
Yeah we’d def ride with young guys in the system

Jeff Luhnow said Lance McCullers Jr.’s Tommy John surgery “increases the odds” of Collin McHugh getting back into the starting rotation.

Interesting that Mets twitter account reported Lance needing TJ hours after our season ended btw

I like that line of thinking
Morton 1 year guaranteed above rate w team option
Eovaldi 3 guaranteed w team option
Valdez, James, Armenteros, even Whitley fight it out in Spring

The only issue with Morton and Eovaldi is going to be health. Morton kinda struggled down the stretch and Eovaldi while always talented has never put it together for a whole season.

I really hope James and Whitley can be effective this season so we know if we can count on them going forward. With Cole and JV contracts ending after next season it’ll be really interesting to see how we handle it

I thought McHugh would be the innings eater that Fiers was in ‘17, but they were determined to leave him in the pen
Can’t see how losing LMJ now changes anything from after AS break this year, unless you are definitely finished w Morton

AStros seem to be in the same boat as the Yankees right now
Two spots in the rotation are locked up (Severino/Tanaka & Verlander/Cole) both teams will get a FA pitcher and then decide if they want to allow the kids a chance. Adams, German, Sheffield, Loisaga, and Cessa can all start. If the Yankees don't go with German/Cessa in the rotation, then both will be in the pen or traded.

Yeah, that’s why Eovaldi makes sense to me, even when you have to go longer term w him.
He has the kinda stuff we like.

Nelson Cruz looking for 12 a year

I think we will either resign Morton or sign Eovaldi. Don’t see both happening with McHugh plus the young options.
I think they ideally want to make a rotation move (Resign Chuck or find outside help) plus a bat move for a corner OF or DH (short term deal for someone like Cruz or a trade)
