On the job training in corner outfield is fine. If either/or proves incapable, it'll show really fast.

Man they’re really giving Chas the old vote of confidence eh?

FODB must be doing work.

I've been watching some Spring "highlights" from around the league, and you're right. There's some really green OFers running around all over the place that even get themselves in position after all kinds of circuitous routes, and still drop it.

And deservedly so

He's not going to get a steady diet of outside corner FBs he can slap oppo anymore

He gets busted inside and nothing but offspeed chase away after that

He's done. Has not been able to make the adjustment.

Basically, the dream now is competent Altuve/Smith in the corners with Jake/Melton platoon in CF with plus range/defense.

Agreed. But as always, our management is a day late. Already short in the outfield to begin with with Tucker gone, did nothing in the offseason to address it (Gamel isn’t a bad player, but he’s not a fix), and now they’re scrambling.

I worry about throwing too much too soon at Smith between putting him in the majors and playing a brand new spot. He’s our best shot at a future long term cornerstone position player along with Yainer and I don’t want them to bungle his development

That's definitely a valid concern.

But we may also have Jackson Merrill 2.0 on our hands. Interesting decision to make.

That said, Dezenzo SZN would be fine by me.

I say “frick it” and let Cam Smith eat. If he’s not ready, we can all come back later and say “see, told you so.”

If we have to watch Meyers and/or Chas flail away with 0-for-4s every night, then give someone else a chance to do the same or perhaps be way better.

I'm going on the IL with covid discomfort. Round 2 has been worse for me than my first go round years ago. Remember me as an a-hole.

Hope you feel better soon. No one should have to deal with that once, much less twice.

We don't exaggerate here baw.

Nah I'm not that bad, just feeling generally shitty with a 102 fever and achey as hell.

On the brighter side, I'll be free to watch King Cams outfield debut tomorrow.

Tuve mistimed a jump on a ball at the wall, lost track of it as it ricocheted back into the field and he assumed it was gone. Jake had to back him up. Went for a triple.

Altuve in the outfield is a f'ing joke. Too short and no arm, but Dana Brown is sucking Bagwell's arse to stay employed. Trade a future HoF OF away, and replace him with a midget

That's exactly the kind of play I referenced when this idea first surfaced, except he could actually reach this one.

I think back to all the times we have had jumping grabs made at the wall in LF in MMP and wonder

Still say he will be back at 2nd and Dubon somewhere in the OF, likely CF when it's all said and done this year.

“Bone bruise” I wonder where I’ve heard that one before

In all seriousness, Whitley is simply a magnet for injuries
