Texas giving deGrom approximately $2.5M per expected start over the next 5 years.
Added to the list.

How do we feel about Conforto as a backup option if they don’t get Benintendi?
Worth a look for sure.

Tbh I think I’d prefer 1 or 2 years of Conforto vs 4-5 years of Nintendo. Seems like the Astros style too.

Disagree with trading Garcia and urquidy. There value is extremely high to us with no depth in the upper minors. That would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.
If the trade to get Murphy includes one of Garcia or Urquidy, it would require a subsequent move to sign a starter, maybe not even one as good. Another 5 in the 4 spot in the rotation.
Someone like Stripling that Jwho identified would be fine, and it sets us up at C for the rest of our window, along with the fact that he has a year with Maldy to learn our staff

Rome on 790 now just basically stated what I have been suggesting... Biggest need is LH bat, likely an OF. Mentioned Benny or trade with AZ for one of their guys.
He said they will stay active in C market and and will likely trade Maldonado if they sign or trade for a C.
He also reirlterated how it makes no sense for the Astros to trade any SP and they will likely be looking to sign a back of the 40 man type SP for insurance.

All of this has been known for months. Nothing has changed on the discussion except for: Let the reigning Cy Young winner who gives you 175 innings of quality starts walk.
After the last 3 days of over-pays, Verlander's contract to the mets looks amazing today.

If he mentioned trading Maldonado, pretty much everything else he says is of very little value
I mean, that's not happening.
And we were a senile manager away from dealing Urquidy away at the deadline for Contreras as a fricking rental, so obviously we don't feel that sacred about moving a SP that didn't make the WS rotation

I can absolutely see them trading Maldonado if they signed a legit guy like Vasquez or traded for a Murphy.

All of the above.

Yeah, the two-year part is fine except for the third year vesting option. The $43 million AAV for a 40-year-old pitcher gives me heartburn no matter who it is.
But you’re right that it seems tame compared to the rest of the spending happening. And there are still big-ticket guys out there.

Lol they are not trading Maldonado for a bag of baseballs or whatever he would return. He will just play less

Let's see how it plays out. Crane is calling the shots. He's not sentimental.

I think Maldonado is 100% on board with transitioning to a back-up role with the Astros.
And I really don't see a big market for him at the trade deadline.

What about Matasaka Yoshida?
Bregman was 11.7% last season. Altuve was 14.4%. Yed was 18.9%. MLB average is around 22%.
ETA: Also I have seen no reports of anal fissures.

Yoshida, a 29-year-old left fielder, has played in parts of seven NPB seasons. He's amassed a career .326/.419/.538 slash line with 135 home runs and 21 stolen bases (on 31 tries). Yoshida's penchant for contact has allowed him to record 120 more walks in his career than strikeouts. Indeed, his career strikeout rate is just over 9.4 percent.

Bring on Ohtani-lite.
Off topic: Rosenthal just reported that the Dodgers are NOT pursuing Carlos Correa, or any other player from the 2017 Astros, due to the negative backlash from the fans.
Everywhere you go… you find an unending supply of people ate up with the dumbass.

Can't blame them
They really need to stand behind their fearless leader Roberts
Despite home losses to the Astros in Games 2 and 7, when they had HFA, they were cheated out of their championship

Southern California people. What do you expect?
On the other hand, I’m glad the Astros didn’t sign Bellinger but that’s more because he’s sucked the last 2 years.
