It’s one less dependable arm, so margin for injury or error is minimal, but like I said, a combo of Brown and McCullers would minimize the damage to the pen.
I’m ready to see. Been ready. LSU first pitch today will have me primed

I’d have liked a small trade for an arm with minor league options who could at least give competent starter/long relief innings. It could get thin fast with an injury or two, they were blessed with fantastic injury luck pitching wise this last year

Damn right. In addition to Verlander being gone and the inevitable LMJ injury, you’ve got Valdez coming off record innings and now this windup/pitch clock deal with Garcia. Who knows if it will affect him. Urquidy hasn’t been without injury issues in the past either.

Tyler Bauer is still a FA... just waiting to Make America Mad Again.

I think Tyler and Bregs could pull it off

Can someone describe the “Baserunner Scheme” in regards to electronic sign stealing?
If you have a man on second (Which, in 2017, was 19.7 percent of the time), someone in the video room was decoding the catcher’s signals in real time and relaying them to the baserunner, who was relaying them to the hitter, is that correct?

Astros RF Kyle Tucker said it was “tough” going through the arbitration process but he likes playing in Houston. He said long-term contract talks didn’t come up in the arb contract discussions. “The outcome wasn’t what we weee hoping and I don’t think it was the right one.”

Sounds like a man destined for FA

Too lazy to copy paste but Rome has some tweets about Maldy taking umbrage to the team publicly searching for a new catcher in the off season. Says he felt like he put his body on the line playing through injuries to help win a world series and probably wouldn't have accepted a backup role.
Pretty sanctimonious for a guy who's hit a combined .179 over the last 2 seasons. The arrogance to imply he'd have demanded a trade over being bumped to backup as if there's a trade demand for a 36 year old catcher who hits like a pitcher.

Exactly. Who else was banging on his door? He's been an albatross around our neck for the last 2 seasons. Does he really not have a clue as to how bad he's been?

Maldy I think has a lot of value in the clubhouse and obviously the team can carry him to a WS win as long as the other 8 (or most of them) are clicking.
It would be nice to have a C who can get hot though and pick up other slumping guys, and Maldy just isn't that guy for any significant stretch.

It’s a stretch to say he can produce offensively, but he earned this season as much as Baker did
You don’t want to believe it, but little things like his HBP and Mancini’s block up of Schwarber’s hard grounder could have been the difference b/w the banner and disappointment

Kyle Tucker said he sometimes senses players are scared of arb.
"I was somewhat looking forward to it. You play all these games, put up your numbers & try to have success with the team. You want to go out & try to get your value & your worth, you might as well fight for it
So, yeah, you’re probably right. Astros can re-sign him but they’ll have to pony up the money. There won’t be an existing-team discount.

There never is in today’s baseball world.
And, why should there be? If Astros were serious about a long term commitment with Tucker, they shouldn’t have pissed away the chance over $2.5 million.

I think the guy should get every last penny he’s worth. I also think the Astros have the right to look at any price and go “nah”, especially when it comes to any new deal past 5 or 6 years. Keep the minor-league pipeline pumping.

It’s a tough spot. As an organization you also can’t just give in every time a player wants a little more in arbitration. We’re not the only team that goes through this.
The whole arb process is silly IMO, and ripe for hurt feelings. Just sign a damn contract with each player and that’s what they get.

Diamond Sports Group appears set to default on $140 million in interest payments, a move which is expected to trigger a bankruptcy filing in the coming weeks, its 19 Bally Sports properties aren’t the only RSNs feeling a financial pinch. According to multiple league, finance and network sources, the three AT&T SportsNet brands in recent weeks have handed over lighter-than-expected envelopes to their respective MLB franchise partners.
An executive with direct knowledge of the RSNs’ financial dealings confirmed to Sportico that the AT&T outlets in Denver, Houston and Pittsburgh submitted their most recent rights payments to their MLB clubs in a timely fashion, although the disbursements were not commensurate with the contracted rates. The teams impacted by the shortfall are the Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros and Pittsburgh Pirates.
The precise amount of the funds withheld is not known but is said to be significant enough to have catalyzed concerns about the long-term viability of the three networks. According to one insider, the partial payments may be interpreted as a signal that new-ish owners Warner Bros. Discovery are eager to get out of the RSN business.
When the Astros are on the field, AT&T SportsNet Southwest is among the five most-watched RSNs in the country. From their perch within the massive Houston market, the reigning World Series champs generate tens of millions of household impressions each season, trailing only the Yankees, Mets and Dodgers.
