The analytics people are not taking the following into account for the HERE and NOW:
1) Carter did his best work for bad teams. That does have an effect on how he approaches the game and how opponents approach him.
2) The more you are in the league, the more people figure you out. They are less likely to make the pitches that let you hurt them.
3) The end result -- A slow runner draws some walks and gets on base more, but he doesn't get mistake off-speed pitches to hit.
Carter sucks at hitting the fastball...repeat...the guy cannot hit straight pitch good. He is the anti-Cerrano, which does not bode well for a major leaguer.

Interestingly enough, a few posters there are arguing that Gattis is perceived the hero between him and Carter because the team is letting him bat in better positions and favors him.
Said Gattis gets to look the hero, while they make it perceived that Carter is just a buffoon striking out and killing the team. Declaring that they are the same player, really that Carter is better because he walks more and is better defensively.

Sure Carter can go on hot streaks where he's among the best power hitters in baseball. But he's inconsistent as frick and much more likely to have months where he hits .150. Like who gives a shite if he's got 35 homers at the end of the year if he was a giant black hole for 4 months of the year. He's too inconsistent to be relied upon. His career is going to follow the Mark Reynolds path after he leaves Astros. He'll just bounce around from team to team

Because people at Clutch or TCB who value walks over overall bat skills out of the 1B and DH spots are fricking stupid.
Sure, we'd love his plate discipline to be better but Gattis can hit ANYTHING. Not only that, but he can hit pitches few people on earth can even get a bat on out of the ballpark.
Gattis also shows the ability to be more than a TTO guy, lashing line drives to all fields. The guy is simply more likely to give you a chance to score with RISP. Throw out Gattis' terrible first three weeks, and the comparison to "wait for it, it'll come later" Carter is a no contest.
And those morons may notice that the analytical Astros have been benching Carter a lot lately while sticking with Gattis. Geee hmmmm...I wonder why?

Nah breh, just wait, he gonna get his high 9 ops by years end.
I wouldn't mind them giving him a chance higher in the lineup to see if his walks stick, where maybe someone worth a frick can drive him in, but I don't know why it is almost now a reverse crusade by them against Gattis.
Goes both ways though, move him up in the lineup, pitchers may attack, one reason they walk now is because he cant hurt you on base, especially since the bottom of the order is wildly inconsistent too.

How? Didn't someone have to be moved or no ?

@EvanDrellich: Chad Qualls is in Tampa, back from rehab. Likely active today. We’ll find out exact situation/potential move in a bit.

Qualls is back
This makes total sense. I think his line last night was something like .2 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs with a HR.
He's ready.

Front office is going full retard if they keep rolling with Qualls, Sipp, and Thatcher on this team. they are losing players. I would rather see us call up Feliz and whomever else they have in the minors. couldn't be worse and probably would be better

So can we get unanchored now?

Was reading the fans' debate on Clutch about trading for Joey Votto if he were put on the block.
He has a huge, long contract but I would seriously consider trading for him and taking on the whole deal. Why? Because he will produce big time until one of Reed/Davis/Nottingham is ready to take the 1B job. That will take two years max, and Votto will still have good trade value for larger market teams.

If he's put on the block - he will go to the Yankees. They will sell George Steinbrenner's ashes on eBay to make enough to get Votto in pinstripes.
