Vladdy is a better all around hitter with a year more of control. He will definitely be pricier in a trade. I expect the Mets to kick in a bunch of cash to maximize the value on Alonso though. If they’re gonna do this I think I prefer Vladdy

But as far as the regular season goes, it's not a wild production gap between them when considering the price it would likely cost us to acquire him.
The at bats where Singleton was not playing 1B still count. Alonso is a pretty significant upgrade over him.
At a minimum you need someone to take at bats ls LHP from Singleton

Sure. But the majority of his non 1B ABs came sparingly at DH before Abreu was shipped out. I'd grant him that the 1B production, with the bump in playing time is more indicative of his performance capabilities than his DH ABs.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not simpin for Singleton here. 1B is an obvious area that could be upgraded. My point is that the 1B market is top heavy with costly guys who may not even be traded (Vlad, Alonso, Walker) and after them the intriguing options kind of go off a cliff. Singletons production is livable if we can otherwise upgrade the offense somewhere else. LF is something to look at. With Tucker out, these are at bats going to Loperfido, Chas and Cabbage.
Someone like Jesse Winker is appealing to me. LH with a .374 OBP 11HR 50 walks. Free agent making 2 million this year. Not as splashy as Alonso or Vlad but would make the offense better while leaving chips free for pitching which is probably a more pressing need.

If they go through the deadline without getting at least a cheap RH caddy/alternative to Singleton is an absolute failure. He is slashing like 170/250/280 vs LHP. The player I am describing is not expensive

Yeah, at this point, almost anyone not named Jose Abreu would be an upgrade over Singleton vs. LHP.

The White Sox just don't understand intangibles.

I'd bring that sumbitch back in some type of gameplanning role where he works with the pitchers and catchers. Provided he never so much as touches a bat. Don't care if he's retired and coaching, his hands never touch a bat. It's just bad juju.
