I guess I missed it.

Was it defensively, offensively, from multiple positions in the lineup daily?

Yuli played like 20 games outside 1B and was horrific at 2B. I still can’t believe Hinch played him there over Kemp. I don’t really see it adding any value

Yuli surprised me at 3rd, and I doubt Pearce, knowing not a damn thing about him statistically, is a better 1st baseman

He was better offensively by a decent margin, in admittingly like half the at bats. But even considering the lack of at bats when compared to gurriel, Pearce still accumulated more WAR

So platooning in favorable pitching matchups produces better numbers?

Who knew?

I haven’t looked but it’s first base. Unless you’re a total goofball athletically everyone is going to be about the same value wise. The bat is what matters

Pearce had good ratio stats... but he only played in 76 games total with 251 PA. He's always been an above average hitter when healthy.

Gurriel also had his best month in September, had an OPS of 1.052 with RISP, and an OPS of 1.179 with RISP and 2 outs.

Probably a push overall.

He had a pretty even split in ABs against righties and lefties

Usually, I would say I agree.

Yuli has saved us too many runs with scoops, fielding, and throwing the ball this year for me to agree with that.

His numbers at the plate with runners in scoring position are second to one man in MLB.

I ain't budging on this one, brotha!

Also, Yuli spent a big chunk of the season hampered by bouncing back from hamate bone surgery. We know how it can sap power from a hitter for many weeks after his initial return.

And I don't normally box myself in without at least looking at the other guys numbers, like I did this time, but I watched their games vs us in addition to many of those vs the Yankees, and I'm confident saying Gurriel's value to the Astros is far greater than Pearce's to the Red Sox.

Pearce had a higher OPS with RISP this year. Albeit 69 PA vs. 155 for Gurriel.

Both of them graded out negatively at 1B as far as defensive runs saved, but Pearce was worse. For whatever that's worth.

I'd agree with this.

Yeah Yuli’s power returning late in the year was big. He was a DP machine for most of the year
