Last night certainly felt like old times. Four homers in one game, feels like they hadn't hit four homers total in the previous two weeks. Springer, Breg, Tuve, and Reddick each had three hit nights.

Javier threw pretty well again, he is going to provide some nice depth in the bullpen for the first series of the playoffs.

Bregman and Altuve each hit their first homers since Mid-August. Reddick hit his first homer since September 5th.

Now the test is carrying over last night's quality AB's to tonight, Kyle Cody threw 3 innings on 1 ER baseball against this lineup on the 15th and is sporting a 1.53 ERA for the season over 17.2 IP.

Urquidy's start tonight will allow him to be on full rest for a game 2 start next Wednesday, it will be very interesting to see what Dusty does with Frambaw and LMJ's starts this weekend if they manage to clinch tonight. Both guys could use the work but wonder what type of pitch counts they would be on.

"It is what it is," Astros manager Dusty Baker said. "Sometimes the ball finds the sweet spot and you get home runs. Sometimes it don't."

Lance needs to get out there and work on keeping his might right for starts away from home. Frambaw should get a few innings as well... no reason not to.

Top 4 hitters went 11/19. Good to see.

Would anyone object to just not starting Lance in the wild card? He is so bad away from MMP..Grienke, Valdez, Urquidy...Javier long relief and I guess Lance too..let's ride

I'd definitely rather not have Lance start a deciding game 3 if the Astros get to it. He's been solid last two times out, need to see it again tomorrow on the road before I'd trust him.

Frambaw has more than earned a look at starting one of those games along with Urquidy. I am absolutely terrified with how Dusty is going to manage those three games

@sabr
#OTD in 1986, @Astros ace Mike Scott pitched a no-hitter to clinch the NL West division title for Houston.

Somebody convince me Lance as a late inning reliever in a 3 game series isn't part of the best roster make up. I'll wait.

Aside from the suddenly Jekyll and Hyde offense, the weak point has been the bullpen. Though I'll grant them they've been better lately. In a 3 game set, obviously Grienke is starting, Framber has been our most consistent pitcher this year, he deserves a starting spot. Then if you get to a game 3, that's the question mark.

I can be sold on the idea that Lance has a ton of big game experience (ALDS v Royals, ALCS Game 7 v Yankees, WS Game 7 vs Dodgers) and he's feasted on those big moments. So maybe you want him starting, even before a game 3. But if you go Grienke and Framber, I feel pretty good about Urquidy being able to go 5 innings and then turn it over to the pen. If you work backwards from then pen it's..

CL Pressly
Setup Enoli
7th: Raley/James/Scrubb

We're gonna add in Javier to the mix but I keep thinking about adding Lance to the backend of the pen to go 1 or 2 innings and setup Pressly, and frankly if he's on he'd have some of the best stuff in the pen. Just a thought, I think that potentially strengthens a weak point of the team but who knows if Lance would even be on board. A starter wants to start and you would be sacrificing one of your most experienced playoff starters in favor of q guys with a total of 1 playoff start between them.

What's he going to do? Say no? Quit on his team? If Dusty and Co. had the brains to do, they'll tell his arse to do it. He's not re-signing here anyway.

Have a mental meltdown and walk 5 before a home run.

Agreed 100% on your Lance take. If you can use him multiple times in a series in a tight spot to bridge to Pressly I think he would be most effective there

Lance feels like a competitor to me and just wants to win especially since he wasn't able to be a part of last years team. I'm sure his pride would take a hit if he's not asked to take the ball to start one of those three games, but he will still give max effort and not let that affect his performance

I feel better about getting a win recently with Frambaw or Urquidy than I do with Greinke. Everyone knows that Greinke will get the ball in game 1, though. I’m 100% in agreement with putting Lance at the back end of the bullpen, but then you’re getting into muh feelings with Lance and Pressly. I don’t think Dusty has the balls. He’ll just play it close to the vest to avoid any heat if things don’t work out.

It’s comical when it comes to James

He could be a weapon, or used as one against you

He needs to pack his shite, or get his shite packed

Random thought of the day: would post TJ Verlander be someone who could make the move to closer Like Smoltz? Is this easier on an old arm than Being a starter? That could be fun to watch.

If he'd dedicate himself to physical fitness, maybe he'd be the success his arm talent suggests.
