DAT 9/17 D-backs (MadBum) @ Astros (Bielak) 7:10 PM CDT

The good ole boys are closing in on a division title. The dispatched of the Rangers again in emphatic fashion last night, 12-1. Josh James was used more wisely by Dusty (who can still frick off) as an 11-run lead was James-proof. Everyone got in on the action with the bats. The mood is good. Everyone is excited.
Well, almost everyone.
The opponents at home are the D-backs, who are going for their 100th loss. They will trot out the corpse of Madison Bumgarner, whose era is over 4.50.
Due to Frambaw being unable to go last night and Garcia being bumped up a day, the Astros are left to send out Brandon Bielak for the series opener. The DAT is on edge, to say the least, about this development.
In Bawlak we trust! It's time to go get 'em Astros! And for your trouble, some Sally Struthers 50 years and a couple hundred pounds ago

Sally Struthers on AITF was 2017 Bregman
This was April 2021 Bregman
This is current Bregman
This is why dreams don't come true.

Bielak. Ugh. The starting pitching injuries need to quit being a thing.
ETA: We should roll out a Sunday lineup tonight since we’re already pitching down and get the off-days and other Dusty bullshite out of the way for this series.

I’m oddly excited to watch Bielak pitch. He was awesome last Saturday. He’s got some good stuff he just lacks a put-away pitch. This should be a shitty enough lineup for him to get a bunch of weak contact and get the team 4-5 innings

All fair points. This team has been better at beating the shite opponents lately so hopefully that trend continues.

Now don't get me wrong Bielak could go out there and get shelled and I look like an idiot, but he's only allowed 2 runs in his last 15.1 innings pitched in the big leagues.
I just find him an easy guy to root for.

He has to get chases out of the zone to be successful.
When he gets ahead in the count, he has a tough time throwing a competitive pitch, and when he does, they foul it off, until he makes a mistake
In other words, it doesn’t take good hitters to work the count against him, for the most part

Absolutely, he throws 96, has a good get me over slider and curveball and a pretty good changeup.
But that's how good these damn big league hitters are, none of his pitches are elite so they just battle until he makes a mistake.

I haven’t looked at the stats but I feel like Bielak just doesn’t get swings and misses in the zone when I watch, which is also a huge part of succeeding at this level. Compare him to a guy like Javier, who is frustrating and doesn’t throw as hard, but he gets swing and misses on two different pitches in the zone when he locates somewhat effectively.

What’s up with that Bregman comparison?

This is for all of you, especially wahoocs.

I’m assuming that’s just balls and strikes.

My rapid takes on the graph:
1) Are they still pissed at Hinch?
2) Imagine how bad the Rangers would be in "perfect fairness"

So in other words, with no Dusty Baker and with robot umps, the Astros would probably be at 95-97 wins right now.

It’s interesting seeing SF in the bottom left. They’ve been such an anomaly all year you’d think they would have been taking advantage of good luck, but nope. They’ve been getting screwed like us, just difference is they still shite pump teams

Boys I'm so hungover from celebrating the Skeeters division clincher last night. But we must clear the fog and see how it plays out tonight.

Our expected W-L based on run differential is 92-54 which would be the best record in the AL, expected or actual.
To the surprise of no one, getting swept by the Tigers, Rangers and Orioles is coming back to haunt us.
On the race for #1 seed, the Rays have a 4.5 game lead over us with 15 games remaining and I think I had their magic number to clinch the number 1 seed at 12.
Rays 91 wins with 15 to play: max of 106 wins
Astros 86 wins with 16 to play: max of 102 wins
Remaining schedules:
Rays: vs Tigers (3), vs Jays (3) vs Marlins (3), @Astros (3), @Yankees (3)
Astros: vs Dbacks (3), @Angels (4), @As (3), vs Rays (3), vs As (3)

No Chance they catch Tampa even with a sweep.
I think 9-7 is the finish. 2nd seed.
2/3 vs D backs
Split 4 with LAA
2/3 at Oak
1/3 vs TB
