Running a little late this morning, baws....while today's DAT is under construction, here is a group discussion question to ponder:

What would happen if you locked Zach Greinke and Joe Biagini in a room alone for 2 hours?

Discuss.

EDIT

I agree with HighC. Open door; dead Biagini. That was an easy answer.

Ok...so on to our regularly scheduled DAT. The good ole boys did it again last night, winning a 5th straight game and continuing to remind us of the Astrodome era.

The Astros did it with a pitching recipe that we all predicted would be a force before the season started: Baw-lak, Raley, James, Taylor.

The Astros pitching has looked like

While the offense looks like

Everyone's best friend Zach Greinke will try to continue the good pitching performance, fresh off of his AM killing of Joe Biagini in the DAT Green Room today. He has really stepped up and become the staff ace.

Hopefully the offense can show signs of life. And prayers for the little fella at the bottom of the lineup who used to be MVP but forgot how to play the game. His season be like

When you opened the door, Biagini would be dead.

Y’all are not giving Greinke enough credit.

Not only would Biagini be dead, he would be posed as a Buddhist monk to signify that the dude will forever remain silent.

Instead of being a switch hitter that can’t hit from either side of the plate, maybe toro should focus on batting from just one side of the plate first and get decent

Ok...OP has been updated. I enjoyed the discourse while I was getting work done.

So I was reading a Jake Kaplan Q&A in the athletic yesterday and found this pretty interesting considering most have been pro keeping George over Correa the last few years. Makes a lot of good points...

If you could extend one but only one would you go for Springer or (Carlos) Correa?

quote:

Correa, and I didn’t think too long about it, either. Yes, he’s missed significant time with injuries in each of the past three seasons, and the back trouble at such a young age would give me a lot of pause. But when deciding between two elite talents who are five years apart in age, I’ll almost always take the younger player. Springer’s free-agent contract will begin with his age-31 season. Assuming there’s no extension beforehand, Correa’s free agent contract will begin with his age-27 campaign. Correa (25.2 coming into Sunday) has almost the same career bWAR as Springer (25.4) in almost 200 fewer games. Correa is the superior defender at his respective position. And while both play up the middle now, Springer might have to move from center field to right field during his next contract.

Yeah, but Correa went on the DL due to a rough massage, and Springer was the World Series MVP. I feel like these things can't be overlooked.

I just feel like the 5 years in age difference is very important

It all depends on the price. Without cost factored in I’d rather have Correa, I’m operating under the assumption his contract will be significantly larger than Springer’s and won’t leave them much wiggle room to make other additions

Honestly, it's very important... but I also think Springer is more likely to extend/resign with the Astros and Correa is more likely to take his talents elsewhere.

I could be wrong about that, though.

Springer being the top OF of this free agent class could see him get overpaid. Although you gotta wonder how the upcoming lockout/new cba will affect things

Also don’t think it’s an ideal winter to be a free agent with everything going on. Not sure how many teams will be jumping to hand out big deals but maybe I’m wrong

Could be a totally different story a year from this winter though, and if Correa stays healthy and keeps this up over the next year plus he’s going to get something in the neighborhood of what Machado got I think

#Astros pitching coach Brent Strom on @JustinVerlander playing catch yesterday for the first time since his injury: “The little bit I heard was that it went very well. All reports were good in terms of how he felt after it.”
