I suspect he was Dana's target from the start.
He drafted Austin Riley. MLB.com calls Neyens a left-handed Riley. Brown probably thinks he's up to fill a corner infield spot as a fast mover (his MO) around the time Paredes and Cocksuck are free agents.

Another power over hit low contact type, we have been generally fricking terrible at developing and improving contact rates for these guys

This is true. Still, I think with that in mind, taking the young one over the older one (LaViolette) may make even more sense for us. Plus, it seems Neyens is built to play 3B which carried more value.

Oh they definitely have a type and I did not want Jace either, they just continue to prefer a type that they have not been successful developing. Not a surprising pick at all though

I have a hunch some of his swing-and-miss issues stem from playing up north against below par prep competition with a late starting season and then playing way too much ball in showcases to make up for it. Part of it is not seeing enough good offspeed stuff regularly and part of it is just being worn down. I like him.

A guy that has a noted whiff problem at the high school level is concerning. MLB draft is weird though. Hard to muster up much of a frick to give when you won't know if its a good or bad pick for 3 or 4 years best case.

He is super talented and went around where most people had him evaluated, my issue is more with our current org/development than the kid himself. Hopefully I am wrong or something changes

I feel you. Melton had a funky swing and Matthews was (is?) raw as hell. This kid's swing is much more encouraging.

Yeah, the suspense is more about whether your team is fast tracking vs developing
Top half of SEC/ACC is High A/ AA and those kids have been getting more than a cup of coffee and without much wait

Agree. I feel like the the top teams in college baseball are doing a lot of the grunt work for MLB teams in developing players...free of charge. I am glad MLB at least notices this a little and at least seems willing to help some, most notably moving the draft to after the CWS

Really seems like the last few years theres been a lot more guys fast tracked to the majors than there used to be. Ive got not actual data to support that vs the past. But it seems like it used to be rare for a guy to be up within a year.
There's already been 5 debuts from the 2024 first round.
11 debuts from the 2023 first round
All of them college players, no surprise.

They definitely have. The promotion incentive picks have helped but it had already begun before that.

Some 80 grade travel ball names in this draft

The Katy to Kingwood part of Houston have done things for White Baseball,,, Actually if somebody will fund it we can start a Texas travel ball start to fame and make millions
Have it in the Woodlands
Hold the two-week-long tournament, inviting teams from all over Texas to play in like a College World Series presentation level
The NIL rights alone we have in this deal ... would generate potential interest from the Jews
I can make a call
