Went a couple of times, but found it to be nothing special

It was definitely just a trashy bar but it was the cheapest option. My wife despised going in there because it was so dirty

The mixed use residential/retail sounds something like a ballpark village that the Cardinals and Rangers have. This particular piece of property is less than 2 acres though. The Arlington development is 7 acres and the St. Louis development is 10. Crane missed an opportunity not buying the 500 Crawford property before they built those condos there.

The Home Plate Bar right after the Game 6 ALCS game in 2019 was the most lit I've ever seen a bar be. Good times there honestly.

It was probably lit under the overpass parking that night too

Can someone educate me on the historical significance of the blue house?

It’s always lit under that overpass, sometimes literally when a bum sets a trash can or something on fire

Its the Cohn House. Its just an old house from an era when that part of Houston was a upscale neighborhood known as Quality Hill. The Cohn house was built in 1905, added to the NRHP in 1985. The City of Houston bought it some number of years ago and moved it to where it currently sits when they expanded the convention center site. The intent was to make it a visitors center but apparently fubding was linked to oil and gas and when that tanked, they abandoned the idea.
At this point, its not being used for anything and seems to be perpetually in the way but its protected as a historic place so they just keep moving it.
Original site on Rusk Street

I’m cracking up that this house just keeps getting moved around just to exist in the way because it’s on some arbitrary list

Put the fricker in center field so we can play Yordan in front of it and bench Straw.

The best part is this latest move isn't a permanent solution. The Chron says they're moving it one block north of Minute Maid but thats a temporary site and at some point its moving to a park on the east side of 59.

Home plate sort of sucked to me. Much better and even cheaper options no that far away.

The old locomotive that sits on the same site is an equally laughable story. Some ol train baw saved it from being scrapped in the 50s, got it donated to the city and it was at Hermann Park from 1957-2005. Hermann was overhauled and didn't want the train anymore so it was moved into downtown
At some point, it was in the way so they brought in a crane to move it to the other side of the lot. Eventually it was gifted to the Tau Center for Cultural Heritage that was to be built nearby but the funding fell through and it was canceled. The locomotive was repainted and then covered in protective plastic 3 years ago and thats how it currently sits. Now that the Astros own the property, the city is trying to find a park to move it to but no definite plans.

I always see it when we go to games and have been curious. I was fairly certain I'd seen it in two different places but thought maybe my memory just sucked
