Why not? He can play first base and DH. Gurriel will be 35 years old in a few months. If he can be a big power bat for cheap at a position of need, then why would you trade him?

What if I told you tJake has 12 spring ABs and has only struck out once?

Not so fast Whoville!

In the 2nd and 3rd innings we had a runner at 2nd base with nobody out and couldn't s get the runner home with major league hitters up.

2nd inning:

Tanny doubles
Jake with a dribbler to catcher
Kemp grounds to first
Brantley foul popout

3rd inning:

Correa singles
Yuri singles
Reddick strikeout
Wild pitch moves runners to 2nd and 3rd
White grounds to 2nd
Chorizo flies out

I'm just warning you. The sharps know this guy doesn't have a position and although his bat is good it's not great. Don't get your hopes up. I warned yall when we drafted bregman and look how that turned out.

Yeah. It happens. Saw he gave up 5 R, but only 1 was earned

Because Gurriel is a professional with World Series experience has done nothing to justify losing his spot.

What has Alvarez done? I’ll wait.

Gurriel is also Cuban. He’s listed as 35 but he could also be anywhere between 12 and 41.

Clearly. Only an 80’s high schooler or a 14 year old would do that.

Just a tongue-in-cheek take, m’man. The slant is real.

Whitley is going to be a #4/5 starter. Astros are dead after next year when they can't resign Verlander and Cole. They need to bring back Dallas this year maybe 3 years 60-70 million with an option for a 4th year for 15 million

In Triple-A, if he's lucky.

Yep, we're doomed for sure.

Not enough, IMO. Somewhere between the Machado and Harper deals would be perfect.

Seriously I'm curious what they do. I think they let Verlander walk and sign Cole. However, I'm not sure about Whitley yet and think Dallas would be a nice bridge.
Verlander
Cole
Dallas
Peacock
Whitley
No pressure

You shouldn't have tipped off the ignorant about the sarcasm.

I'd think the chances are better they resign JV than Cole just because his contract is bound to be shorter, commitment-wise. If they think JV is a Nolan Ryan type who will keep his velo into his 40's, they may be willing to pay him for 3-4 years.

I like Cole going to 35/36 vs Verlander going 37-40. I mean Cole can be the anchor to the staff for the next 5 years

I do as well but I think Luhnow and co. may not feel good about the size of the Cole deal. Altuve's contract may end up as the exception and not the rule until it's time for Bregman to get paid.
