Boy bailey looked good today. Has a lot of movement on his pitches.

In case anyone was hoping Reymin Guduan developed control, I regret to inform you he has not

Yeah he once again looked like crap. There are several lost causes in this farm system. Guduan, Reed, Fisher (despite his two hits today).

I’m hoping Fisher has a good spring. Don’t think he really has a role with us going forward but I could see a team lacking OF depth wanting to take a chance on him, maybe they could move him for a Bailey type pitcher later in the spring

Gonna be interesting to see what plays out between Jake kemp and ted

Ted is headed to AAA. The battle will be between Kemp and Jake and the team faces a bit of a dilemma in that choice..

~Kemp is out of minor league options and would have to clear waivers to be assigned to the minor leagues. It's unlikely that he'd go unclaimed.

~Jake has options remaining but he'll reach his 5th year of service time in early May and can refuse a minor league assignment at that point.

Since they're non similar players, theres a dilemma in which guy to pick. Kemp provides more value with his bat, typically provides a contact oriented approach but his defense in the outfield isnt great. Jake's got elite defense and speed but a weak bat and his contact skills suck.

The ideal scenario is Jake's batting tweaks paying off and you've got speed and defense from your 4th OF and Kemp could then be traded for a lottery ticket rather than risk losing him to a waiver trade. But I'm not putting much faith in Jake's bat.

So Aaron Hicks just extended 7 years for $70M.

Think that’s a decent line to look at as far as a Springer extension?

Springer will get more than that. At least 1.5x as much.

I would think so but it seems like they got a huge discount on it. That’s a great deal for NYY.

2018 WAR:

Hicks: 4.7
Springer: 2.8

Kind of surprised me there. Springer in the overall numbers are better than Hicks, but 1.5x that?

Almost seems as they’re pretty close to the same player. Of course Springer does some things better, but as far as overall player, is it fair to say they’re close to the same?

Excuse my ignorance, because I don’t watch as much Yankees as Astros, obviously

I don't think springer will be offered 7 years. He's 29!

They’re very similar. I don’t know how the center fielder for the Yankees is underrated but Hicks is. He’s really good.

2018 was a down year for George.

He was at 5.1 for 2016 and 5.0 in 2017.

I don't know that he'll get that long of a deal, but on average yearly salary he'll be 1.5x that. He's already making $12M annually.

The last couple offseasons have shown the arb salaries mean nothing when a player gets offered a contract by a team. I agree I think the Astros will offer a higher AAV shorter term deal

4 years 65 million seems fair for springer.

Springer's current salary isn't arbitration though, the Astros gave him a 2-year deal for 2018 and 2019 to avoid going to arbitration.

He'll have an arbitration year in 2020 before becoming an UFA if nothing is extended sooner.
