Gustave isn't ready for prime time. He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn

Cotts released

Also

Houston also optioned left-hander Kevin Chapman to the minors, so with Chapman and Cotts out of the picture, it’s possible Tony Sipp may be the only southpaw in the Astros bullpen. As Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle tweets, veteran lefty Wandy Rodriguez still has a chance at the last open spot in the pen, competing with righty Dan Straily.

Would much rather Wandy over Straily. Gives us another lefty plus he's better at baseball

Hopefully neither one will be counted on very much in high leverage situations.

Having LMJ and Gattis both on DL gives the Astros a few extra days to keep both Wandy and Straily.

Astros like Straily's arm.. Just not his inconsistency. Ultimately, he will get cut.

Wandy will stick with the team until the trade deadline.

We'll see. I assume he will be given a chance to stick for awhile. But he may not be able to do it.

Absolutely. Wandy could also give you an emergency start, if needed.

Just saw that Wandy is officially on the Astros 40-man roster. He made the team.

Link? The Astros site lists him as not on the 40 man.

Basically a shoe in since there was only one lefty.

Will be interesting when gattis and mccullers come off the DL.

Someone from TCB tweeted it. May not be accurate.

I suspect someone like Wandy is at greatest risk when Lance is able to throw. But struggles by Fister or Feldman could change that.

I'm willing to bet the team sees Gattis' role as Castro's backup now.

I highly doubt that. He's coming off a rough injury. Hasn't caught in over a year. Has never caught our staff.

We'll see. I don't think we need him as a DH only anymore. The kids are ready, and we need a backup catcher who preferably hits right handed.

Agree. I'm all for it if he can actually catch when he comes back. I doubt it though.

He was not a bad defensive catcher and had a much better track record throwing out runners than Conger (overall, not just last season). The guy is in much better shape now than he has been in his career, too. Of course, it is a contract year. If he's healthy, Gattis will catch a couple games per week.

I hope so. He has good value as a C. Not so much as a DH.

MLB.com has a live stream of the game in Mexico against the Padres. Or you could watch it in Espanol if you get Univision.
