It's cool unwinding all those deals and seeing how we got where we are. That Cosart deal got us the Daz Cameron pick too. What a huge haul that trade was.
We also got David Paulino to complete the deal for Veras. Another really good trade by Luhnow

Most of all minor leaguers don't become very good. I would say we got mlb talent in mode trades than not and that's a win overall. Just think, the number 50 prospect in baseball is ranked/expected to be an mlb average player. Everyone had false and overhyped thoughts on prospects.

I know exactly what play you're talking about without even opening the link
Now we have the second best odds to win it all on some books going into spring training

The Cubs are 4-1 to win the World Series at the Westgate SuperBook. No other team has odds in the single digits. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros are next at 10-1, followed by the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox at 12-1.

Maybe it was maybe it wasn't. So far we don't know. As the poster so tediously outlined....most prospects font make it. So far Marisnick is the only ML player and he appears to be 4th or 5th OF type. The rest are still prospects and we simply don't know what they will be yet.
Kike Hernandez is a better offensive player than Marisnick and although he's not as good in CF, he can play just about every position on the field....that is extremely valuable.

Ok. So, are you saying you'd rather have Kike and Cosart back and the talent from those trades out of the organization?
State your answer. Go ahead and convince us the Astros are a stronger team with Cosart and Kike versus the talent haul from that trade.

As far as I'm concerned, the Astros got stronger merely by removing Cosart. There's a reason he was traded from the Astros. There's a reason he can't stay in the rotation with the Marlins.

Check your reading comprehension. As of right now at the ML level the only relevant pieces are JM and Kike....Cosart is no big deal now.
The point is that RIGHT NOW we simply don't know if any of the other guys will ever become anything. We just don't know yet. Most of them won't make it.
I personally think Martes will at least be a #3 type or a quality back end bullpen guy...but I don't know for sure because we have seen him do it yet.

No, no. My reading comprehension is just fine. I am talking RIGHT NOW. Is the team in a better position RIGHT NOW with that trade? Or would they be better RIGHT NOW if they had Cosart and Kike back, RIGHT NOW?
You keep saying we don't know because the other guys haven't made the big team yet. But we DO know... the team is better, RIGHT NOW by having Cosart out of the club house.
The outfield is better RIGHT NOW by having the 4 best defensive outfielder combo in the AL.
The infield is better RIGHT NOW by having the (one of) best middle infield tandem in the AL.
Would Kike playing second help the team? No.
Would Kike playing Center field be better than Gomez? No.
Would Kike be a better option than Marwin Gonzales? Hell No.
Who in the Rotation do you take out and put Cosart in place? No one. Even a gimpy Feldman is better than a dickish Cosart.
RIGHT NOW, the Astros are better because of that trade. It's not that big of a deal to admit it Ryno. You were very vocal about trading Kike away. But if you look at the team RIGHT NOW, you can clearly see the team is better by making that trade than if they had those two guys back.

2015 WAR
Marisnick - 2.2
Hernandez - 1.4
Thats just one advanced stat I looked at...
I can go look at defensive metrics as well if you'd like.

Funny we were just talking about this and this crosses my twitter page....look who is #1

The majority of teams occupy a band between roughly 89 mph and 92 mph; the fourth-place Angels are as close to the Astros as they are to the No. 15 Cubs. It's even more impressive than that for Houston, though, because the Astros also swept the top two spots on the individual rankings:
Top outfield arms on "competitive throws," minimum 45 qualified throws
1. Marisnick 98.6 mph
2. Gomez, 98.3 mph
3. Kevin Kiermaier 97.9 mph
4. Avisail Garcia 97.0 mph
5. Carlos Gonzalez 97.0 mph

That was a really good article... if you look at the top and bottom of the lists, it basically substantiates the better teams invest in the better arms in the outfield.
Nothing Earth shattering, but it was interesting to see the data validate what we (most of us) already know.

Here's a note for the "Astros aren't spending enough to my liking and should spend more!" crowd.
I get players make more money now, but they have trended up with the money as with the wins.
The more they contend, the more I expect them to trend up even more.
Here's the article. I don't have a problem with anything he says. I personally feel like long term contract hand cuffs teams in the long run. In the end, you end up with peaks and valleys. When you run with a budget and you don't get out of hand, you can run a consistent, winning franchise, IMO.
Now, with that said, they should just start drafting that inevitable $300M contract for Correa.

The Astros in 2016 appear on track for an opening-day payroll around $94 million, which would be the second largest in the team's history (if non-roster invitees make the team, that could change).

next off season is the one to spend too. The Free agent market is huge

Bunch of people coming off our books likely too as was posted earlier in the thread. Gomez, Valbuena, Feldman, Rasmus, Fister, Castro, Neshek are all free agents

Apparently, CJ Wilson is having shoulder issues early this spring.
So, yeah. When we all do predictions, I'm not sure how the Angels aren't last everywhere

Anybody know where there's a good 2016 schedule wallpaper for my desktop?
I searched and can't find one.
